Abeltje
''Abeltje'' is a children's novel by celebrated Dutch author Annie M. G. Schmidt, originally published in 1953 by De Arbeiderspers. It was one of Annie M. G. Schmidt's first children's books, and such an instant success that it was already in its fourth edition when the sequel, '' De A van Abeltje'', came out in 1955. Since 1988, the book has been published by Querido with illustrations by Thé Tjong-Khing. ''Abeltje'' has been adapted for radio and film. It has been translated from Dutch into Danish, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Japanese, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish. The story of ''Abeltje'' has some similarities with the plot of Roald Dahl's ''Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator'' (1972), in which the main characters also fly around the world in an elevator. The Flying Liftboy
''The Flying Liftboy'' () is a 1998 Dutch family adventure film directed by Ben Sombogaart and written and produced by Burny Bos, based on the 1953 Dutch children's book ''Abeltje'' by Annie M. G. Schmidt. It stars Rick van Gastel, Soraya Smith, Frits Lambrechts, Marisa Van Eyle and Annet Malherbe. It is the first feature film to be adapted from Schmidt's books. Development began in 1994, when Bos acquired the rights to the book from Schmidt. However, various issues such as the budget delayed production of the film. It was filmed in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain and New York. The film was released on 26 November 1998 in the Netherlands by Warner Bros. under their Family Entertainment label. The film received positive reviews and became a major success in the country. It won the Golden Calf for Best Feature Film. ''Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator'' is a children's book by British author Roald Dahl. It is the sequel to '' Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'', continuing the story of young Charlie Bucket and chocolatier Willy Wonka as they travel in the Great Glass Elevator. The book was published in the United States by Alfred A. Knopf, Inc. in 1972, a year after the release of the film '' Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'', and in the United Kingdom by George Allen & Unwin in 1973. The Golden Calf () is the award of the Netherlands Film Festival, which is held annually in Utrecht. The award has been presented since 1981, originally in six categories: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Culture Prize and Honourable mention.
