Abel Redenut
Abel Redenut (born 17 April 1995) is a Papua New Guinean footballer who plays as a defender for Madang in the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League and the Papua New Guinea national football team. Early years Redenut, who is born of mixed Oro and Morobe parentage, started playing soccer at the St. Joseph International School in Port Moresby. Apart from soccer, Redenut has played schoolboys rugby union but upon recollection, decided to focus his energy on football. Club career Redenut started his career with Besta United PNG which is the national development team of the Papua New Guinea Football Association. In 2014, just before the 2014 OFC U-20 Championship he joined Port Moresby. In 2016, he joined Mungkas. After two seasons with Mungkas he joined Madang to play for them in the 2018 OFC Champions League. Port Moresby
(; Tok Pisin: ''Pot Mosbi''), also referred to as Pom City or simply Moresby, is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea. It is one of the largest cities in the southwestern Pacific (along with Jayapura) outside of Australia and New Zealand. It is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the south-western coast of the Papuan Peninsula of the island of New Guinea. The city emerged as a trade centre in the second half of the 19th century. Papua New Guinea Football Association
The Papua New Guinea Football Association, PNGFA is the governing body of football (soccer) in Papua New Guinea. The PNGFA is a member of both FIFA and OFC, having FIFA and OFC affiliation in 1966 after being founded in 1962. The PNGFA is a member of the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee, meaning that the PNGFA has control over the men's and women's PNG Olympic football team. Tahiti National Football Team
The Tahiti national football team (French: ''Équipe de football de Tahiti'') represents French Polynesia and is controlled by the Fédération Tahitienne de Football. The team consists of a selection of players from French Polynesia, not just Tahiti, and has competed in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) since 1990. Tahiti is traditionally one of the stronger footballing nations of the Pacific Islands, with the second-best record at the football section of the South Pacific Games, with five victories. They were runners-up in the first three instalments of the Nations Cup (1973, 1980 and 1996). The nation went through a period of less success, but showed promise when it qualified for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt. 2015 Pacific Games
The 2015 Pacific Games, also known as Port Moresby 2015 or POM 2015, was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, from 4 to 18 July 2015. It was the fifteenth staging of the Pacific Games as well as the third to be hosted in Port Moresby. More than 3,700 athletes from the 22 Pacific Games Associations plus first time entrants Australia and New Zealand, took part. With almost 300 sets of medals, the games featured 28 sports, 19 of which are on the 2016 Summer Olympics program. Only men's association football, football was a straight qualifying event for Football at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Rio 2016. These sporting events took place in 14 venues in the host city. 2018 OFC Champions League
The 2018 OFC Champions League was the 17th edition of the Oceanian Club Championship, Oceania's premier club football tournament organized by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and the 12th season under the current OFC Champions League name. In the final, Team Wellington defeated Lautoka 10–3 on aggregate and qualified as the OFC representative at the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Auckland City are the defending champions, having won the last seven titles straight, but they were eliminated in the semi-finals. Madang F
Madang (old German name: ''Friedrich-Wilhelmshafen'') is the capital of Madang Province and is a town with a population of 27,420 (in 2005) on the north coast of Papua New Guinea. It was first settled by the Germans in the 19th century. History Russian biologist Nicholai Miklukho-Maklai was probably the first European to visit the area. In 1871 he stayed at Astrolabe Bay south of present-day Madang for 15 months. He had a good relationship with the local communities before leaving, suffering from malaria. In April 1884 an expedition by the German New Guinea Company led by Otto Finsch and Eduard Dallmann arrived and named the landing point "Friedrich Wilhelmshafen"; however, they felt that the area was unsuitable for a settlement. 2014 OFC U-20 Championship
The 2014 OFC U-20 Championship was the 20th edition of the biennial international youth football tournament organized by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) for players aged 19 and below (despite the name remaining as U-20 Championship). The tournament was held in Fiji from 23 to 31 May 2014. Despite the name remaining as U-20 Championship, the age limit was reduced by a year to 19 years of age. So players who want to participate in the tournament needed to be born on or after 1 January 1995. At an OFC Executive Committee meeting held at its Auckland headquarters in November 2013 the competition format was modified. The competition was brought forward a year and the age limit was lowered to 19 years of age. The changes were made in order to allow the winner of the competition plenty of time for preparation and player development for up-and-coming World Cups at Under 20 level. Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The KPHL National Soccer League, also known as the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Soccer League for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of professional soccer in Papua New Guinea. It is a nationwide league formed in 2006 by Papua New Guinea Football Association. It replaced the Papua New Guinea National Club Championship as the country's major soccer competition. In its 13 seasons, the competition has been won by only two clubs: Hekari United won the first eight editions, while Lae City have won the last six.
