Abdy Ricketts
Major General Abdy Henry Gough Ricketts, (8 December 1905 – 16 January 1993) was a British Army officer who served as General Officer Commanding, Cyprus District during the Cyprus Emergency. Military career Ricketts was commissioned in to the Durham Light Infantry in 1925. He served in the Second World War as second-in-command of the 3rd (West African) Infantry Brigade from March 1944 and then as commander of the 4th (West Africa) Infantry Brigade from October that year. After the war he served as a staff officer with responsibility for operations and staff duties in Malaya during the Malayan Emergency and then became commander of the 29th Infantry Brigade in October 1951 during the Korean War. Durham Light Infantry
The Durham Light Infantry (DLI) was a light infantry regiment of the British Army in existence from 1881 to 1968. It was formed in 1881 under the Childers Reforms by the amalgamation of the 68th (Durham) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry) and the 106th Regiment of Foot (Bombay Light Infantry) along with the Militia and Volunteers of County Durham. The regiment served notably in the Second Boer War, World War I and World War II, the Korean War and the Indonesia–Malaysia confrontation. During times of peace it had duty in India, China, West Germany and Cyprus. The School of Land/Air Warfare was a Royal Air Force school based at Old Sarum in Wiltshire. Its purpose was to encourage greater co-operation between officers in the air and those on the ground. History The School was originally established at Old Sarum in 1920 as the School of Army Co-operation to provide training for air officers supporting troops on the ground. This became the School of Air Support in 1945 when its remit was broadened to cover assistance by air in amphibious operations.
