Abdullah Derupong Mama-o is a Filipino government official who served as the ad interim Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers under the Duterte administration. Education Mama-o attended the San Beda College and graduated from the school in 1972. Career President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Mama-o as the presidential adviser on Overseas Filipino workers, Overseas Filipino Workers first tasking him of overseeing the repatriation of Filipinos in Saudi Arabia who were affected by a financial crisis. Maria Susana "Toots" Vasquez Ople (February 9, 1962 – August 22, 2023) was a Filipina politician and Overseas Filipino Workers' (OFW) rights advocate who served as the first Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers. Biography Susan Ople was born on February 9, 1962, the youngest of the seven children of Blas F. Ople and Susana Vasquez. Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) is a term often used to refer to Filipino migrant workers, people with Filipino citizenship who reside in another country for a limited period of employment. The number of these workers was roughly 1.77 million between April and September 2020. Of these, female workers comprised a larger portion, making up 59.6 percent, or 1.06 million. However, this number declined to 405.62 thousand between 2019 and 2020. 2018 Kuwait–Philippines Diplomatic Crisis
In early 2018, Kuwait and the Philippines were embroiled in a diplomatic crisis over the situation of Overseas Filipino Worker, Filipino migrant workers in the Persian Gulf country. The diplomatic row was a result of the discovery of the corpse of Joanna Demafelis, a Filipino domestic worker working in Kuwait which has been inside an abandoned warehouse since November 2016.
