Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium
Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium, known until 2016 as the Hockey Club of Pakistan, is a field hockey stadium located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. History The stadium was constructed in 1963 under the administration of Karachi Cantonment Board. It was opened in 1966. The stadium was leased to Pakistan Hockey Federation for a period of 30 years, until 1993. The lease was renewed for another 30 years, till 2023. However, the structure has been declared as dangerous by the Karachi Cantonment Board and Sindh Building Control Authority. In July 2022, plans were announced to renovate the stadium by the Pakistan Hockey Federation and the Government of Sindh. Frontier Works Organization has been contracted to conduct the work at a budget of Rs. 1.5 billion. The project is stated to include the installation of seats, indoor gyms, swimming pools, boys' hostel, and changing rooms. The Karachi Cantonment () is a cantonment town of the city of Karachi, in Sindh, Pakistan. History It serves as a Pakistan Army military base and residential establishment. It was originally established by the British in August 1839 as a military base for the British Army, and was taken over by the Pakistan Army in 1947. The cantonment maintains sewerage, sanitation, roads, buildings control, transfer of immoveable properties, death, birth and marriage record of the respective area. Malavan Bandar Anzali Football Club (, ''Bāšgāh-e Futbāl-e Malavān-e Bandar-e Anzali'') is an Iranian football club based in Bandar-e Anzali, Iran. The 1976 Quaid-e-Azam International Tournament also called Quaid-e-Azam Birth Centenary International Football Tournament, was the first edition of the Quaid-e-Azam International Tournament. The event was held at the Hockey Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan. Overview Originally scheduled for 22 October, the tournament was initially designed with two groups, Group A consisting of Chinese team Guangdong, Afghanistan, and Pakistan Greens (the national A team), and Group B comprising Malaysia, Mauritius, and Pakistan Reds (the B team). However, in early October, the tournament's start date was abruptly moved up to 12 October. Malaysia (originally set to arrive on the 18th) and Mauritius (on the 19th) were unable to adjust their travel plans on short notice. The Hockey Champions Trophy (HCT) was an international field hockey tournament held by the International Hockey Federation (FIH). It featured the top 6 ranked nations in that year. History Founded in 1978 by Pakistan's Air Marshal Nur Khan and the Pakistan Hockey Federation, it featured the world's top-ranked field hockey teams competing in a round robin format. A biennial women's tournament was added in 1987. The Champions Trophy was changed from an annual to a biennial event from 2014 onwards, due to the introduction of the Hockey World League (HWL).
