Abdul Qayum (imam)
Abdul Qayum ( bn, মুহাম্মদ আব্দুল কাইয়ুম, ar, مُحَمَّد عَبْدُ الْقَيُّوم; b. 1 March 1960) is a British Bangladeshi scholar and the chief Imam of the East London Mosque. A former lecturer of the International Islamic University Malaysia, Abdul Qayum served also as a presenter on Islamic programmes on Peace TV Bangla and Channel 9. Background Abdul Qayum was born in the District of Noakhali in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). He studied Islamic Sciences and Hadith at the Government Madrasah-e-Alia in Dhaka and then continued his studies of Islamic Sciences under several scholars in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Sheikh
Sheikh (pronounced or ; ar, شيخ ' , mostly pronounced , plural ' )—also transliterated sheekh, sheyikh, shaykh, shayk, shekh, shaik and Shaikh, shak—is an honorific title in the Arabic language. Mohammad Akram Nadwi (born c. 1963) is an Islamic scholar and the Dean of Cambridge Islamic College, principal of Al-Salam Institute, and an Honorary Visiting Fellow at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education. Khatib
In Islam, a khatib, khateeb or hatib ( ar, خطيب ''khaṭīb'') is a person who delivers the sermon (''khuṭbah'') (literally "narration"), during the Friday prayer and Eid prayers. The ''khateeb'' is usually the prayer leader (''imam''), but the two roles can be played by different people. The khatib should be knowledgeable of how to lead the prayer and be competent in delivering the speech (''khutba'') however there are no requirements of eligibility to become a khatib beyond being an Adult Muslim.
