Abdul Karim Abdullah Al-Arashi
Abdul Karim Abdullah al-Arashi (22 July 1929 – 10 June 2006) (), was a Yemeni politician who served as the interim President of the Yemen Arab Republic briefly from 24 June to 18 July 1978. He was preceded by Ahmed Al-Ghashmi and succeeded by Ali Abdullah Saleh. He also served as Vice President of Yemen Arab Republic, from 1978 to 1990, and the Speaker of the Constituent People's Assembly (Parliament) from 1978 to 1988, and the president of the Shura Council from 1988 to 1990. A statement by the president's office noted that Al-Arashi played an important role in the 1962 Yemeni revolution and in defending its goals. “Throughout the various positions he held, he proved to be steadfast and highly competent,” the statement indicated. North Yemen Civil War
The North Yemen civil war, also known as the 26 September revolution, was a civil war fought in North Yemen from 1962 to 1970 between partisans of the Kingdom of Yemen, Mutawakkilite Kingdom and supporters of the Yemen Arab Republic. The war began with a ''coup d'état'' carried out in 1962 by revolutionary republicans led by the army under the command of Abdullah al-Sallal, Abdullah as-Sallal. He dethroned the newly crowned Imams of Yemen, King and Imam Muhammad al-Badr and declared Yemen a republic under his presidency. His government abolished slavery in Yemen. Ahmed Al-Ghashmi
Ahmad bin Hussein al-Ghashmi (21 August 1935 – 24 June 1978) () was a Yemeni military officer who served as the fourth President of the Yemen Arab Republic (North Yemen) from 11 October 1977 until his assassination eight months later. Al-Ghashmi had assumed power when his predecessor, Ibrahim al-Hamdi, was likewise assassinated. Early life and career Ahmed al-Ghashmi was born on 21 August 1935 in Hamdan District, Sanaa Governorate, North Yemen. According to some sources he was born in 1938, but according to others he was born in 1941. After the coup d'état of September 26, 1962 and the subsequent outbreak of the North Yemen Civil War (1962-1970) began. Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani
Abdul Aziz Abdul Ghani ( ; 4 July 1939 – 22 August 2011) was a Yemeni politician who served as Prime Minister of Yemen from 1994 to 1997, under President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Ghani was a member of the General People's Congress party. Ghani also served as the second Vice President of Yemen Arab Republic in the 1980s, and as the Prime Minister of the Yemen Arab Republic twice. His first term was from 1975 to 1980, and his second term was from 1983 to unification in 1990. Abdul Ghani was the president of the Consultative Council (Shura Council) from 2001 until his death in 2011. He received his BA degree in economics from Colorado College in the United States in 1962 and an MA in economics from the University of Colorado in 1964.
