The Labour Party (LP) is a social democratic political party in Nigeria. The party was created in 2002 and was previously known as the Party for Social Democracy (PSD) before changing to its current name the following year. Built on the ideology of social democracy, the party aims to promote and defend social democratic principles and ideals for the purpose of achieving social justice, progress and unity. Julius Abure
Julius Abure (born 24 June 1971) is a Nigerian lawyer, politician, and the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). He is the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) in Nigeria between 2021 & 2028 (June). His Chaimanship was confirmed on the 4th of April 2025. Abure was previously the National Secretary of the Labour Party and also worked at the Edo State Reform Commission. Career Politics Abure became the chairman of the Nigerian political party, Labour Party following the death of his predecessor Abdukadir Abdulsalam. He was elected by the Labour Party National Executive Council (NEC) in 2021, as he was the National Secretary of the party at the time. However, his chairmanship was challenged by some party members, especially Lamidi Apapa, the suspended deputy national chairman, who claimed to have removed Abure through a court order.
