Abdollah Momeni
Abdollah Momeni is an Iranian student leader and activist. He became involved in the movement in the July 1999 protests, when large numbers of students across the country protested the abolition of pro-reform newspaper ''Salam''. Abdollah Momeni worked as a longtime spokesman of the Alumni Association of Iran (Advar-e Tahkim Vahdat) organization, which focuses on enforcement of democracy and human rights protection. August 2009 arrest He was arrested during protests after the election in June 2009 and later sentenced to eight years in prison for his presence at post-election gatherings and activities against national security. According to witness statements, Momeni was subjected to abusive treatment in prison. After five years of imprisonment he was released on March 13, 2014. International attention For his efforts in the field of human rights advocacy, Momeni was awarded the 2009 Homo Homini Award by People in Need. People in Need (PIN) ( cz, Člověk v tísni) is a Czech nonprofit, non-governmental organisation based in Prague, Czech Republic. PIN implements humanitarian relief and long term development projects, educational programmes, and human rights programmes in crisis affected regions internationally. Its director is Šimon Pánek. As of 2022, PIN operates in 33+ countries. In the Czech Republic, PIN runs social integration programmes and provides informative and educational activities. Majid Tavakoli ( fa, مجید توکلی ; born 1986) is an Iranian student leader, human rights activist and political prisoner. He used to be a member of the Islamic Students' Association at Tehran's Amirkabir University of Technology, where he studied shipbuilding. He was arrested at least three times by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence, during the student protests over the disputed Presidential Election of 2009. In response to allegations that he cross-dressed as a disguise to avoid arrest, a campaign protesting his imprisonment featured men posting photos of themselves wearing hijab. He was arrested again during the Iranian protests following the death of Mahsa Amini in September 2022.
