Abdillahi Askar
Colonel Abdillahi Askar (; 1947 – 29 August 2010) was a Somali military officer and colonel of the Somali National Movement (SNM). Nicknamed the 'Lion of Gode' after annihilating two Ethiopian divisions in the Ogaden war, he joined the SNM shortly after its foundation. Biography Abdillahi Askar was born in 1947 in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia. He completed his intermediate education in Dire Dawa and returned to Somaliland in 1966. In 1967, he enlisted in the Somali Armed Forces and trained as an officer in the Soviet Union. After some time, he pursued higher education in military leadership and training in the United States. Aware (woreda)
Aware () is one of the woredas of Ethiopia in the Somali Region. Part of the Jarar Zone, formerly Degehabur Zone, Aware is bordered on the south by Gunagado, on the west by Degehabur, on the north by the Jijiga Zone, on the northeast by Somaliland Somaliland, officially the Republic of Somaliland, is an List of states with limited recognition, unrecognised country in the Horn of Africa. Misraq Gashamo
Misraq Gaashaamo is one of the woredas in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Part of the Jarar zone, Daror is bordered on the south by the Werder Zone, on the southwest by Gunagadow, on the west by Aware, and on the north by Somaliland; it is frequently considered part of the Haud. The biggest town and capital of this district is Gaashaamo. The district is named after the town. History Before 1960, there was no water available during the dry season in Misraq Gashamo; the pastures in the woreda were traditionally abandoned by the local nomadic pastoralists for areas with abundant water with the advent of the dry season, like Burco in Somaliland. Gode (, ) is a city in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Located in the Shabelle Zone, the city was the capital of the Somali Region until 1995 when Jijiga became the capital Gode Airport, also known as the Ugas Mirad Airport (IATA code GDE), has regular flights operated by Ethiopian Airlines. A bridge over the Shebelle River was built near Gode in 1968. History During the 1960s, in spite of the threat of tropical water diseases, the Ethiopian government launched the Webi Shabelle Valley Irrigation Programme which was based in Gode . Ogaden (pronounced and often spelled ''Ogadēn''; , ) is one of the historical names used for the modern Somali Region. It is also natively referred to as Soomaali Galbeed (). The region forms the eastern portion of Ethiopia and borders Somalia. It also includes another region to the north known as Haud. The Ogaden is a vast plateau located to the south and southeast of the Ethiopian Highlands, and is overwhelmingly inhabited by Somali people.
