Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge
Abdikarim Ahmed Mooge Liibaan () is a Somaliland politician and is the current Mayor of Hargeisa, the largest city and capital of Somaliland. Early life Abdikarim was born in 1974 in Sin-ujiif, a village in the outskirts of Garowe, Somalia. Abdikarim is the son of famous Somali artist Ahmed Mooge Liibaan and nephew of famous Somali artist Mohamed Mooge Liibaan. He grew up in Hargeisa, where he completed his primary and secondary education. At the outbreak of clashes in Hargeisa during the Somaliland War of Independence, Abdikarim fled to Ethiopia, specifically the Kaam-Abokor refugee camp. Upon his return to Somaliland, he and several other youth founded the HAVAYOCO agency, with the goal of supporting vulnerable people and youth. He later worked for UN agencies and international organizations, where he moved abroad and spent some of his life, but later returned to Hargeisa. Mohamed Mooge Liibaan
Mohammed Mooge Liibaan (, ) – 1945-1984) was a prominent Somali instrumentalist, vocalist, and poet. Biography Mooge was born in Hargeisa, Somaliland, and was a member of the Eidagale clan of the larger Isaaq Somali clan. He and his brother Ahmed Mooge Liibaan started singing and composing Somali literature at a young age. He worked as a school teacher before starting his music career. He and his brother were members of the Waaberi musical ensemble, the most popular Somali music group at the time. He was very popular, especially for his abilities on the oud. The Somaliland War of Independence () was a rebellion waged by the Somali National Movement (SNM) against the ruling military junta in Somali Democratic Republic, Somalia led by General Siad Barre lasting from its founding on 6 April 1981 and ended on 18 May 1991 when the SNM declared what was then northern Somalia independent as the Republic of Somaliland. Hargeisa
Hargeisa ( ; ; ) is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Somaliland, a ''List of states with limited recognition, de facto'' sovereign state in the Horn of Africa, still considered internationally to be part of Somalia. 2021 Somaliland Municipal Elections
Mayoral and local district council elections were held in Somaliland on 31 May 2021 alongside parliamentary elections, after multiple delays. On 12 July 2020, Somaliland's major political parties reached a landmark agreement to ensure timely elections and to advance preparations for the elections. Negotiations between the parties and the National Electoral Commission settled on the earliest possible date by which the latter believed it would have sufficient time to prepare for the polls. Number of voters 1,065,847 people registered to vote in Somaliland's local elections. 552 candidates vied for 220 seats.
