Abby Newhook
Abigail Newhook (born May 13, 2003) is a Canadian ice hockey forward, currently the co-captain of the Boston College Eagles. Career Newhook began playing hockey at the age of three. Until 2018, she played for the boys' St. John's Hitmen bantam AAA, serving as team captain in the 2017–18 season. She then moved to the United States to play for the Bay State Breakers and Tabor Academy. She committed to join Boston College in the United States for college hockey when she was 14, the youngest girl from Newfoundland & Labrador to commit to an NCAA Division I team. She began studying at the university in the 2021–22 season. In her first NCAA season, Newhook finished ninth in Hockey East scoring, and led the league in goals (16), assists (13) and points (29) by a rookie player. She was consequently named the Hockey East Rookie of the Year, as well as to the All-Rookie Squad. In her second year with the Eagles, Newhook recorded 19 goals and 14 assists in 36 games. Boston College Eagles Women's Ice Hockey
The Boston College Eagles women's ice hockey team represent Boston College in the NCAA and participate in Hockey East. The Eagles are coached by former Olympic gold medallist Katie King-Crowley and play their home games at Conte Forum. They have won the Hockey East championship three times, and made seven trips to the Frozen Four of the NCAA tournament. History The Boston Eagles women's ice hockey program was launched in 1994, under head coach Tom O'Malley, who oversaw the development of the program for five years. In 1999, Tom Babson took the helm and coached for four seasons. In the early years, the team competed in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) but struggled to build a competitive program, largely due to the school being generally unsupportive financially. Alex Newhook (born January 28, 2001) is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected in the first round, 16th overall, by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2019 NHL entry draft and won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022, becoming the third player from Newfoundland and Labrador to do so, following Daniel Cleary (2008) and Michael Ryder (2011). 2025 PWHL Draft
The 2025 PWHL Draft was the third annual draft in Professional Women's Hockey League history, and took place on June 24, 2025, at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Kristýna Kaltounková was selected first overall by the New York Sirens. Eligibility The declaration period for the draft opened on March 1, 2024, and closed on May 8. Undrafted players will become free agents; players must declare for the draft to reach free agency. Selected players may re-enter the draft if they are not signed to their draft club after two years. No player may declare for more than two drafts. Players ineligible to play in the 2025–26 season are not eligible to be selected. On May 15, 2025, the PWHL released the full list of eligible players.
