Abbas Ibrahim (Lebanese Officer)
Abbas Ibrahim (; born 2 March 1959) is a Lebanese major general who was the Director General of the General Directorate of General Security from 18 July 2011 until 1 March 2023. Early life Abbas Ibrahim was born on 2 March 1959. He hails from the town of Kawthariyet al-Sayyad, Sidon District in Southern Lebanon. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in military science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Career At the age of nineteen, he enrolled in military school and graduated three years later with the rank of lieutenant. Throughout the 1980s, he took part in several training courses in the military, culminating in an infantry course in the United States in 1989. This was followed by a computer course in 1996 to stay up to date with the electronic age. He also received advanced security training in the United Kingdom in 1998. General Directorate Of General Security
The General Security Directorate () is a Lebanon, Lebanese intelligence agency founded on July 21, 1921 and originally known as the "first bureau". On June 12, 1959, Decree-Law No. 139, in force from that date, was published. Under this decree the General Security becomes a branch depending on the power of the minister of interior and headed by a director general, as president. On December 16, 1959, Organizational Decree No. 2873 was published. It establishes a regional organization of general security and creates more branch, regional departments, border, maritime and air. Rafic Bahaa El Deen al-Hariri (; 1 November 1944 – 14 February 2005) was a Lebanese businessman and politician who served as prime minister of Lebanon from 1992 to 1998 and again from 2000 to 2004. Hariri headed five cabinets during his tenure. He was widely credited for his role in constructing the Taif Agreement that ended the 15-year Lebanese Civil War. He also played a huge role in reconstructing the Lebanese capital, Beirut. He was the first post-civil war prime minister and the most influential and wealthiest Lebanese politician at the time. During Hariri's first term as prime minister, tensions between Israel and Lebanon increased, as a result of the Qana massacre. Lebanese Commando Regiment
The Commando Regiment () is a special forces unit in the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). History In 1960, General Emile Boustany, then the commander in northern Lebanon, and Mahmud Tay Abou Dargham discussed the creation of a commando unit. After Boustany became LAF commander, he ordered Captain Abou Dargham to train and form such a unit. The new unit was issued with reserve Beretta rifles. The first two-month course accepted 250 candidates, including Colonels Nabih Farhat and Makhoul Hakim who had attended Egypt's Commando School, of which 65 passed. A second course raised strength to 150. The Commando Company deployed to southern Lebanon during the Six-Day War.
