Abba Aftse
Abba Aftse or ‘Afsé (probably late 400s and early 500s A.D.) was one of the Nine Saints of Ethiopia. As he has a Syriac name, he likely came from Edessa or its surroundings. According to a ''gädl'' (Acts or ''Vita'') of him, he traveled from Asia Minor to Rome. In Rome, he met Abba Garima. The two both traveled to Ethiopia, where they spent much of their time together as mutual companions. Abba Aftse was known as a healer. He founded a monastery in Yeha Yeha ( ''yiḥa'', older ESA 𐩥𐩢 '; Old South Arabian: 𐩺𐩢𐩱 ') is a town in the northern Central Zone, Tigray in Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church () is the largest of the Oriental Orthodox Churches. Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church
The Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church () is one of the Oriental Orthodox Churches with its headquarters in Asmara, Eritrea. It was given autocephaly by Shenouda III of Alexandria, pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church, after Eritrea gained its independence from Ethiopia in 1993. Thus, the Eritrean Church accords a primacy of honor to the Coptic Church. Sources differ on the percentage of Christians in the Eritrean population, with most figures being close to one-half, although some sources report slightly more than 60%. Nine Saints
The Nine Saints were a group of missionaries who were important in the initial growth of Christianity in what is now Ethiopia during the late 5th century. Abba Garima
Abba Gärima (also known as Abba Yeshaq; late 400s and early 500s A.D.), was one of the Nine Saints of Ethiopia. Ethiopian Saints
Ethiopians are the native inhabitants of Ethiopia, as well as the global diaspora of Ethiopia. Ethiopians constitute several component ethnic groups, many of which are closely related to ethnic groups in neighboring Eritrea and other parts of the Horn of Africa. The first documented use of the name "Ethiopia" from Greek name , was in the 4th century during the reign of Aksumite king Ezana.
