Ababil-100
The Ababil-100 or al-Fat'h or al-Fatah was an Iraqi single stage solid-propelled short-range ballistic missile whose development started around 1991 and was tested from 2000 to 2002. Its launcher was derived from the Ababil-50 MLRS. Development During August 1991 Iraq started a program to develop the J-1 SSMs based on the S-75 Dvina surface-to-air missile, SAM, later on structural similarities would be observed between the Al Fahd 300, Fahad missiles that would later be released and the J-1 missiles. Iraq would then commence another program to develop a missile that could deliver a 300 kg payload with a range of 150 km and a Circular Error Probable, CEP of 150 m for guided Al-Fat'h and 750 m for unguided Al-Fat'h. Al-Samoud 2
Al-Samoud (الصمود, alternately ''Al-Samed'', which means steadfastness in Arabic)Miller, David: ''Conflict Iraq: Weapons and tactics of US and Iraqi Forces.'' Zenith imprint, 2003, page 22. was a liquid-propellant rocket tactical ballistic missile developed by Iraq in the years between the Gulf War and the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. The Iraqi army also developed a solid-fuel rocket version known as Ababil-100. Development The missile was essentially a scaled-down Scud, though parts were mostly derived from the Soviet S-75 Dvina surface-to-air missile. The first test-firing was carried out as early as 1997 and was supervised by UNSCOM. The production started in 2001, and the goal was the assembly of ten missiles each month. Al Fahd 300
The Al Fahd 300 was an Iraqi solid-propelled short-range ballistic missile that was based on the Soviet S-75 Dvina surface-to-air missile. Its expected range was 300 km, which violated the limits provided by UNSC 687 which stipulated that Iraq was only allowed to have missiles with a range lower than 150 km. The missile project was thus halted and declared abandoned by 1993. Development and operational history In August 1991 Iraq secretly started work on the J-1 surface-to-surface missile based on the S-75 Dvina without notifying UNSCOM. During the development of the missile the Ababil-100 had already been declared and Iraq later on admitted to hiding its Fahd missile project with the Ababil-100 as similarities would be observed between J-1 and Ababil-100.
