Aaron Xuereb
Aaron Xuereb (born 3 October 1979 in Floriana, Malta) is a professional football player. He currently plays for the Maltese First Division side Gżira United, where he plays as a defender. Playing career Floriana Xuereb began his career with Floriana during the Maltese Premier League 1996–97 season. As a youngster, first team opportunities were few and fair between, but he still notched up six appearances, without scoring, as Floriana helped itself to a 3rd place finish in the Maltese Premier League. The Maltese Premier League 1997–98 season, was Xuereb’s second season, and it proved to be his last as a Floriana player. He showed promise, but again Aaron only made a handful of appearances, four to be exact, without scoring. Floriana went on to finish the season in 5th position in the Maltese Premier League. Floriana
Floriana ( or ''Il-Floriana''), also known by its title Borgo Vilhena, is a Floriana Lines, fortified town in the Port Region, Malta, Port Region area of Malta, just outside the capital city Valletta. It has a population of 2,205 as of March 2014. Floriana is the birthplace of many famous Maltese, amongst which the composer of the national anthem, 'L-Innu Malti', Robert Samut; former Bishop of Malta Dun Mauro Caruana, the poets Oliver Friggieri and Maria Grech Ganado, the writer and politician Herbert Ganado and Swedish Idol winner Kevin Borg. Mark Miller (footballer)
Mark John Miller (born 22 September 1962) is an English manager, currently in charge of the Żurrieq U-19s, and former footballer. Playing career During his career he played as a midfielder and played in Malta and Finland towards the end of his career. After his experience in Finland, Miller returned to Malta and played and managed Floriana. During his time with the ''Greens'' they won the Premier League, FA Trophy and the Super Cup. Miller joined Sliema Wanderers as player/coach during this time he won the Premier League (1995–96) Managerial career Miller joined the technical set up of Hibernians in 1996, remaining with the club until 1999. Miller was then associated with the Malta Football Association until 2008, serving as head coach of the Malta national under-21 football team. The Maltese Premier League 2008–09 was the 94th season of the Maltese Premier League, the top-tier association football competition in Malta. It began on 23 August 2008 with a scoreless draw between Floriana and Hamrun Spartans; and ended on 24 May 2009. The first goal in the season was scored by Ivan, who played for Qormi. Maltese Super Cup
The Maltese Super Cup is an annual super cup tie held in Malta between the champions of the previous Maltese Premier League season and the holders of the Maltese FA Trophy. If the Premier League champion also won the FA Trophy, the league runners-up takes its place as the opposition. Up till 2003, the match used to be played at the end of the season, however, this was altered to be played around mid-December. The current holders are Ħamrun Spartans F.C., Ħamrun Spartans, who defeated Birkirkara F.C., Birkirkara 4–0 in the final played on 8 December 2023. Maltese Cup
The FA Trophy, currently known as the Meridianbet FA Trophy for sponsorship reasons, is an annual football cup competition that takes place in Malta. The cup was founded in 1933; following a match between England and Italy, played in Rome in May 1933, to where a number of pro-British Maltese supporters travelled to support the English side. The Football Association as recognition donated a silver trophy to be played on the model of the FA Cup. The team who wins the cup wins a place in the First qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League. This competition is now played on a knock-out basis between all the senior clubs in the Maltese and Gozitan football pyramids. Terence Scerri (born 3 April 1984 in Senglea, Malta) is a professional footballer currently playing for Zurrieq Football Club Playing career Hibernians Terence Scerri was spotted playing for the St. George's youth team, and was snapped up by Maltese Premier League team Hibernians. Scerri made his first team bow during the 2000–01 season, going on to make just two appearances, failing to score, as Hibernians recorded a 4th-place finish in the Premier League. Andrew Cohen (born 13 May 1981) is a Maltese former footballer who played as a striker. Playing career Hibernians Cohen began his career with this boyhood team Hibernians, making the transformation from the youth squad to the senior squad during the 1999–2000 season.
