Aaron Stein Cook
Aaron Stein Cook is a Nauruan politician. Career Cook unsuccessfully ran to represent the Aiwo Constituency in the parliament of Nauru in 2008, as well as April and June 2010. In 2009, Cook was elected as president of the Nauru Weightlifting Federation. Cook was first elected to parliament in 2013 election, where he unseated Parliament Speaker Godfrey Thoma. Cook was appointed by President Baron Waqa as Minister for Commerce, Industry & Environment, RONPhos, and the Nauru Rehabilitation Corporation. In parliament, he served on both the Library Committee and the Printing Committee. Cook was re-elected in the 2016 election. Waqa again gave him ministerial appointments, as Minister for RONPhos, the Nauru Rehabilitation Corporation, and the Nauru Utilities Corporation. Cook failed to be re-elected in the 2019 election. The Republic of Nauru Phosphate Corporation (RONPhos) is a government-owned company controlling phosphate mining in Nauru. The company was previously known as the Nauru Phosphate Corporation (NPC). Failed investments In the early years of the Nauru Phosphate Royalties Development Trust, it financed the construction of two of five high-rise luxury condos in Hawaii (on the island of Oahu). Uaboe District
Uaboe (also known as Waboe) is a district in the island nation of Nauru, located in the northwest of the island. Geography Covering about 0.8 km², Uaboe has a population of 330. Uaboe is the second-smallest district in Nauru. It is the only district other than Boe to have an area less than 1.0 km². Parliamentary elections were held in Nauru on 24 September 2022 to elect all 19 members of parliament. All candidates were elected on a non-partisan basis. Following the election, Russ Kun, a member of parliament for Ubenide, was elected president by parliament. Parliamentary elections were held in Nauru on 24 August 2019. President Baron Waqa lost his seat in Boe Constituency, making him ineligible for a third term. Following the elections, Lionel Aingimea was elected President, winning a parliamentary vote 12–6 against David Adeang. The Nauru Electoral Commission (NEC) is the body which oversees elections in Nauru. History Before the NEC, Nauruan elections were administered by the chief secretary, who was a political appointment by the president. The NEC was established in March 2016, after parliament passed the Electoral Act. Shortly after its establishment, the NEC was provided with technical assistance from the Commonwealth of Nations ahead of the 2016 parliamentary election. Joseph Cain was first appointed Electoral Commissioner. He served from 2016 to 2020. His successor, former deputy electoral commissioner Sylvana Deireragea was appointed in 2020.
