Aarno Turpeinen
Aarno Turpeinen (21 March 1971 – 8 June 2022) was a Finnish professional footballer who played as a defender. In the 1998–99 season, Turpeinen was part of the HJK Helsinki squad that reached the group phase of UEFA Champions League as the first and only Finnish club to this day. The 2001 season was the 71st completed season of Finnish Football League Championship, known as the Veikkausliiga. At the same time it was the 12th season of the Veikkausliiga. Overview The Veikkausliiga is administered by the Finnish Football Association and the competition's 2001 season was contested by 12 teams. Tampere United won the championship and qualified for the 2002–03 UEFA Champions League qualification round, while the second and third placed teams qualified for the first qualification round of the 2002–03 UEFA Cup. The fourth placed team qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup 2002, while the two lowest placed teams of the competition, FC Jokerit and RoPS Rovaniemi were relegated to the Ykkönen. The UEFA Intertoto Cup (from , "between" and , " betting pool"),Most precisely, from ( football pool); cf. originally called the International Football Cup, was a summer football competition between European clubs. The competition was discontinued after the 2008 tournament. The tournament was founded in 1961–62, but was only taken over by UEFA in 1995. Initially, the tournament ended with a single champion, who received the Intertoto Cup. Starting in 1967, the tournament ended with a number of group winners (7 to 14 winners), who received cash prizes.
