''A Very Capable Life: The Autobiography of Zarah Petri'' is a non-fiction memoir of his mother by the Canadian television host Johnnie Walters, written under his real name John Leigh Walters and published in January 2010 by Athabasca University Press. It re-tells the stories his mother described to him regarding her immigration to Canada in the 1920s. John Leigh Walters
John Leigh "Johnnie" Walters (born c. 1933) is a Canadians, Canadian retired broadcaster and television personality known for his on-air improvisation and sense of humour. He is best known for his long affiliation with CKCO-TV in Kitchener, Ontario. He received his training on American TV and radio, developing his style hosting TV shows in U.S. cities. According to Harold Ramis in Dave Thomas (actor), Dave Thomas's book, ''SCTV: Behind The Scenes'', the Second City Television, SCTV "Dialing For Dollars" spoofs were based on the show of that name hosted by Walters in St. Louis, Missouri, St. Louis. His early gigs included radio hosting at WHK (AM), WHK in Ohio, and a daily show WLWT, WLW-TV in Cincinnati with Vivian Della Chiesa, from 1964-68. A memoir (; , ) is any nonfiction narrative writing based in the author's personal memories. The assertions made in the work are thus understood to be factual. The Great Depression (19291939) was an economic shock that impacted most countries across the world. It was a period of economic depression that became evident after a major fall in stock prices in the United States. The economic contagion began around September and led to the Wall Street stock market crash of October 24 (Black Thursday). Creative nonfiction (also known as literary nonfiction or narrative nonfiction or literary journalism or verfabula) is a genre of writing that uses literary styles and techniques to create factually accurate narratives.
