''A Treasury'' is a Nick Drake compilation aimed at the audiophile audience. Released in the UK on 27 September 2004 and in the US on 26 October 2004, it was available as both a hybrid multichannel SACD and a 180 gram vinyl LP. To promote the compilation, a single was issued for the song " River Man", released on CD and 7" vinyl in the UK on 13 September 2004. Nick Drake
Nicholas Rodney Drake (19 June 1948 – 25 November 1974) was an English singer-songwriter known for his acoustic guitar-based songs. He did not find a wide audience during his lifetime, but his work gradually achieved wider notice and recognition. MacDonald, IanExiled from Heaven. ''Mojo Magazine'', January 2000. Drake signed to Island Records when he was 20 years old and a student at the University of Cambridge. He released his debut album, '' Five Leaves Left'', in 1969. He recorded two more albums—'' Bryter Layter'' (1971) and '' Pink Moon'' (1972). Neither sold more than 5,000 copies on initial release. His reluctance to perform live, or be interviewed, contributed to his lack of commercial success. Hidden Track
In the field of recorded music, a hidden track (sometimes called a ghost track, secret track or unlisted track) is a song or a piece of audio that has been placed on a CD, audio cassette, LP record, or other recorded medium, in such a way as to avoid detection by the casual listener. In some cases, the piece of music may simply have been left off the track listing, while in other cases, more elaborate methods are used. In rare cases, a 'hidden track' is actually the result of an error that occurred during the mastering stage production of the recorded media. However, since the rise of digital and streaming services such as iTunes and Spotify in the late 2000s and early 2010s, the inclusion of hidden tracks has declined on studio albums. Magic (Nick Drake Song)
"Magic" (also known as "I Was Made to Love Magic") is the second listed song from Nick Drake's 2004 compilation album '' Made to Love Magic'' and was remastered and released as a single in 2004. The single was released on both CD and vinyl record formats, with '' Bryter Layter'' track " Northern Sky" as a B-side. "Magic" was originally recorded for the '' Five Leaves Left'' sessions but did not appear on the final album. A version of the song with a different string arranger features on ''Time of No Reply'', Drake's 1986 outtakes compilation. For ''Made to Love Magic'' the song was artificially sped up and stripped of its original string section, which was scored by Richard Hewson. A separate string arrangement written in 1969 by Robert Kirby, recorded in 2004, was used as a backing to the new faster track. Pink Moon
''Pink Moon'' is the third and final studio album by the English musician Nick Drake, released in the UK by Island Records on 25 February 1972. It was the only one of Drake's studio albums to be released in North America during his lifetime. ''Pink Moon'' differs from Drake's previous albums in that it was recorded without a backing band, featuring just Drake on vocals, acoustic guitar and a brief piano riff overdubbed onto the title track. Released two years before Drake's death in November 1974, at the age of twenty-six, the lyrical content of ''Pink Moon'' has often been attributed to Drake's ongoing battle with depression. The songs are shorter than on his previous albums, with a total album running time of just over twenty-eight minutes. Five Leaves Left
''Five Leaves Left'' is the debut studio album by English folk musician Nick Drake. Recorded between 1968 and 1969, it was released in 1969 by Island Records. Recording ''Five Leaves Left'' was recorded between July 1968 and June 1969 at Sound Techniques in London, England. Engineer John Wood recalled that "rakewould track live, singing and playing along with the string section" without the use of any overdubbing. For the song " River Man", producer Joe Boyd described Drake playing on a stool in the centre of the studio while surrounded by a semi-circle of instruments. The studio's environment was also an important factor as it had multiple levels to it which enabled the creation of interesting sounds and atmospheres. ''Bryter Layter'' is the second studio album by English folk singer-songwriter Nick Drake. Recorded in 1970 and released on 5 March 1971 by Island Records, it would be his last album to feature backing musicians, as his next and final studio album, ''Pink Moon'', would have Drake perform all songs solo. Content and production Like ''Five Leaves Left'', the album contains no unaccompanied songs: Drake was accompanied by part of the British folk rock group Fairport Convention and John Cale from The Velvet Underground, as well as Beach Boys session musicians Mike Kowalski and Ed Carter. Super Audio CD (SACD) is an optical disc format for audio storage introduced in 1999. It was developed jointly by Sony and Philips Electronics and intended to be the successor to the Compact Disc (CD) format. The SACD format allows multiple audio channels (i.e. surround sound or multichannel sound). It also provides a higher bit rate and longer playing time than a conventional CD.
