''A Silence'' () is a 2023 drama film directed by Joachim Lafosse. The film stars Daniel Auteuil and Emmanuelle Devos. It premiered on 25 September 2023 at the 71st San Sebastián International Film Festival. It was released in France on 10 January 2024. The film is based on the real case of disgraced Belgian lawyer Victor Hissel. Premise "Having remained silent for 25 years, Astrid, the wife of a prominent lawyer, sees her family's equilibrium shatter when her children initiate their quest for justice." Cast Production The screenplay was written chiefly by Lafosse with Thomas Van Zuylen. Chloé Duponchelle and Paul Ismaël served as co-writers. Sarah Chiche, Matthieu Reynaert, and Valérie Graeven are credited as writing collaborators. Joachim Lafosse
Joachim Lafosse (born 18 January 1975) is a Belgian film director and screenwriter. Career Lafosse studied at the IAD (Institut des arts de diffusion) at Louvain-la-Neuve between 1997 and 2001. His graduation film ''Tribu'', a 24-minute short, won the best Belgian short subject category at the 2001 Namur Film Festival. His first full-length feature, ''Folie Privée'' (2004), won the FIPRESCI award at the International Film Festival Bratislava, Bratislava International Film Festival., and the semi-autobiographical ''Ça rend heureux'' (2006) took the Grand Prix at the 2007 Premiers Plans, Premiers Plans d'Angers festival. 2006 also saw the release of ''Nue Propriété'', starring Isabelle Huppert and brothers Jérémie Renier, Jérémie and Yannick Renier, which debuted at the 63rd Venice International Film Festival, Venice Film Festival where it was nominated for the Golden Lion and won a SIGNIS award. The 18th Rome Film Festival took place from 18 to 29 October 2023 in the Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome. The festival programme was unveiled by Gian Luca Farinelli, the chair of the Rome Cinema Foundation on 22 September 2023. It opened with '' There's Still Tomorrow'' the directorial debut film of Italian actress, screenwriter Paola Cortellesi.
