A Public Execution
"A Public Execution" is a song performed and recorded by the American band Mouse and the Traps, also credited simply as Mouse, written by Ronny "Mouse" Weiss ''(né'' Ronald Lon Weiss; born 1942) (music) and Knox Henderson ''(né'' Knox Holmes Henderson; 1939–2002) (words), and first released as the group's debut single on Fraternity Records in December 1965 (''see'' 1965 in music). The song was a big regional hit in Texas and peaked in the lower reaches of the ''Billboard'' charts, but has become better-known today, in large part, due to the band's uncanny imitation of ''Highway 61 Revisited''-era Bob Dylan. "A Public Execution" was originally a one-time studio-project by Weiss at Robin Hood Studios, owned by Robin Hood Brians, Jr. (born 1939), with no real expectations for commercial success. Mouse And The Traps
Mouse and the Traps is the name of an American garage rock band from Tyler, Texas, United States, that released numerous singles between 1965 and 1969, two of which, " A Public Execution" and "Sometimes You Just Can't Win", became large regional hits. The leader of the band, nicknamed "Mouse", was Ronny Weiss. Two of their best known songs, "A Public Execution" and a cover of "Psychotic Reaction", are not actually credited to this band but, respectively, to simply Mouse and Positively 13 O'Clock instead. Their tangled history also included one single that was released anonymously under the name Chris St. John. The band are not to be confused with the girl group Mousie and The Traps who recorded for Toddlin' Town records around the same time. ''The Fraternity Years'' is a retrospective album that has been released in CD format. As the name implies, the album collects most of the music from the many singles that Mouse and the Traps released on Fraternity Records, so the last two singles released by the band in 1969 on Bell Records are omitted, as are the novelty song "Would You Believe" and the cover of "Psychotic Reaction" by Positively 13 O'Clock. A public execution is a form of capital punishment which "members of the general public may voluntarily attend." This definition excludes the presence of only a small number of witnesses called upon to assure executive accountability. Nuggets (series)
''Nuggets'' is a series of compilation albums, started by Elektra Records in 1972 and continued by Rhino Records thereafter. The series focuses primarily on relatively obscure garage and psychedelic rock songs from the 1960s, but with some hits and pop-oriented songs also included. In 1972, Elektra released '' Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965–1968'', compiled by Lenny Kaye. The later series by Rhino consists of 12 vinyl-only and three single-CD albums, all released during the 1980s. In 1998, Rhino issued a 4-CD ''Nuggets'' box set, which was essentially the original 1972 LP with 91 bonus tracks. Four more box sets and four single-CDs releases followed. Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles (also known as Bubbling Under the Hot 100) is a chart published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine in the United States. Richie Unterberger (born January 19, 1962) is an American author and journalist whose focus is popular music and travel writing. "Like a Rolling Stone" is a song by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, released on July 20, 1965, by Columbia Records. Its confrontational lyrics originated in an extended piece of verse Dylan wrote in June 1965, when he returned exhausted from a grueling tour of England. Dylan distilled this draft into four verses and a chorus. "Like a Rolling Stone" was recorded a few weeks later as part of the sessions for the forthcoming album '' Highway 61 Revisited''. During a difficult two-day preproduction, Dylan struggled to find the essence of the song, which was demoed without success in time.
