''A New World Record'' is the sixth studio album by the English rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It was released on 15 October 1976, by United Artists Records in the United States and on 19 November 1976, by Jet Records in the United Kingdom. ''A New World Record'' marked ELO's shift towards shorter pop songs, a trend which would continue across their career. Their second album to be recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich, the LP proved to be the band's breakthrough in the UK; after their previous three studio recordings failed to chart in their home country, ''A New World Record'' became their first top ten album on the UK Albums Chart. It became a global success and reached multi-platinum status in the US and UK. The album sold five million units worldwide within its first year of release. Livin' Thing
"Livin' Thing" is a song written by Jeff Lynne and performed by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It appears on ELO's 1976 album ''A New World Record'' and was also released as a single. Patti Quatro sang uncredited vocals, particularly the "higher and higher" parts. The original single had " Fire On High" on the flip side, a tune that became the band's most popular instrumental piece. The UK version was released in a blue vinyl format. Background "Livin' Thing" makes prominent use of augmented chords. ''Joyride'' is a 1977 adventure film directed by Joseph Ruben. The screenplay was written by Ruben and Peter Rainer. Plot Scott and the couple John and Suzie go to Alaska to make money salmon fishing. They enter a bar and the two men get drunk. Suzie meets an older man working for the oil pipeline who says he can get all three of them a job. The older man gives Suzie his card while Scott and John sleep off their drunkenness. The Move
The Move were a British Rock music, rock band formed in Birmingham in 1965. They scored nine Top 40, top 20 UK singles in five years, but were among the most popular British bands not to find any real success in the United States. For most of their career The Move were led by guitarist, singer and songwriter Roy Wood. He wrote all the group's UK singles and, from 1968, also sang lead vocals on many songs. John Kosh, known simply as Kosh, is an English art director, album cover designer, graphic artist, and documentary producer/director. He was born in London, England and rose to prominence in the mid-1960s while designing for the Royal Ballet and the Royal Opera House.
