A New Play
''A New Play'' (Spanish: ''Un drama nuevo'') is a 1946 historical drama film directed by Juan de Orduña and starring Irasema Dilián, Roberto Font and Jesús Tordesillas. It was shot at the CEA Studios in Madrid. The film's sets were designed by the art director Sigfrido Burmann. Pujante & Hoenselaars p.47 It is based on the 1867 play of the same title by Manuel Tamayo y Baus. Synopsis In Jacobean London, William Shakespeare's company stage a new tragedy. Shakespeare allows the fool Yorick to play the lead, before realising that the new play's theme of jealousy of a spouse closely resembles that of Yorick and his wife Alicia. Juan De Orduña
Juan de Orduña y Fernández-Shaw (27 December 1900 – 3 February 1974) was a Spanish film director, screenwriter and actor. Subservient to the ideological tenets and preferences of Francoism, he was one of the regime's standout directors during the autarchy period. Nevertheless, his film "Follow the Legion" has been seen as a disguised story of homosexual love, and de Orduña was a homosexual. He particularly earned recognition for his epic-historicist films, including the extravagant ''Madness for Love'' (1948), "an immense commercial success". Antonio Casas Barros (11 November 1911 – 14 February 1982) was a Spanish footballer turned film actor who appeared in film between 1941 and his death in 1982. Casas originally began as a footballer for Atlético Madrid, but entered film in 1941 and made nearly 170 appearances in film and TV between then and 1982.
