''A Cold-Blooded Epitaph'' is the first EP by American melodic death metal band The Black Dahlia Murder (band), the Black Dahlia Murder released in May 2002 on Lovelost Records, it is released as an Mini CD, MCD. This is the band's last release with guitarist John Deering. "The Blackest Incarnation" and "Closed Casket Requiem" were to be later released on their following, full-length album, ''Unhallowed''. The EP features the cover of "Paint It Black", originally performed by the Rolling Stones in 1966. The Black Dahlia Murder is an American melodic death metal band from Waterford Township, Michigan, Waterford, Michigan, formed in 2001. Their name is derived from the 1947 unsolved murder of Elizabeth Short, often referred to as Black Dahlia. , the band consists of lead vocalist Brian Eschbach, bassist Max Lavelle, drummer Alan Cassidy, and guitarist Ryan Knight. The Black Dahlia Murder has undergone various lineup changes, with Trevor Strnad and Eschbach remaining the only constant members, until the former's death in 2022, which then saw Eschbach take over lead vocals and Knight (who was the band's lead guitarist from 2009 to 2016) replacing him on rhythm guitar. ''Unhallowed'' is the debut studio album by American melodic death metal band the Black Dahlia Murder. It was released through Metal Blade Records on June 17, 2003. An enhanced version of the album was released that included photos and info about the band. Metal Blade released a limited edition vinyl version of ''Unhallowed'' on August 20, 2013 in honor of the album's tenth anniversary. The band performed the album in its entirety on their spring 2016 tour with Fallujah and Disentomb. The intro and outro to this record come from the guide ''Butchering the Human Carcass for Human Consumption'' by the Church of Euthanasia. The intro is a narration of the section "Gutting" and the outro is from the section titled "Beheading". "Paint It Black" is a song by the English rock band the Rolling Stones. A product of the songwriting partnership of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, it is a raga rock song with Indian, Middle Eastern and Eastern European influences and lyrics about grief and loss. London Records released the song as a single on 7 May 1966 in the United States, and Decca Records released it on 13 May in the United Kingdom. Two months later, London Records included it as the opening track on the American version of the band's 1966 studio album '' Aftermath'', though it is not on the original UK release.
