AVCA Showcase
The AVCA Showcase, established by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, was an annual NCAA volleyball tournament that was held at the start of each fall season. In the old format, four teams, usually ranked in the top 15, compete for the showcase title. In the new format, it was changed to a conference challenge. The tournament was founded in 1995, and ten times, the showcase champion has made the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship final four, with the team winning the national championship twice. Prior to 2005, it was called the "State Farm/NACWAA Classic". At the start of 2008, Runza (restaurant), Runza Restaurants started sponsoring, thus the name becoming "Runza/AVCA Showcase". Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Minnesota Golden Gophers (commonly shortened to Gophers) are the college sports teams of the University of Minnesota. The university fields a total of 25 (12 men's, 13 women's) teams in both men's and women's sports and competes in the Big Ten Conference. The Gophers women's ice hockey team is a six-time NCAA champion and seven-time national champion. In women's ice hockey, the Gophers belong to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Nancy Metcalf
Nancy Jean Metcalf (née Meendering; born November 12, 1978) is an American indoor volleyball player. She represented her native country at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, where she finished in fifth place with the USA National Team. She missed the 2008 Olympics with a torn labrum, and was not named to the national team in 2012. Early life Nancy Meendering is the second of four children born to Harry and Dee Meendering. She attended Western Christian High School, where she earned two state titles in volleyball and made it to the all-state squad three times. In addition, she is Western's career leader in kills, kills per game and blocks. She was inducted into the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame in May 2012. The Florida Gators women's volleyball team represents the University of Florida in the sport of volleyball. Misty Elizabeth May-Treanor (; née May; born July 30, 1977) is a retired American professional beach volleyball player. She is a three-time Olympic gold medalist, and , was the most successful female beach volleyball player having won 112 tournaments in domestic and international competition. May-Treanor and teammate Kerri Walsh Jennings were gold medalists in beach volleyball at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics.
