A.S. Sambenedettese S.r.l. is an Italian association football club, based in San Benedetto del Tronto, Marche. Sambenedettese currently plays in Serie D. History Foundation The original club was founded in 1923 as ''U.S. Sambenedettese''. In 1956, the club was first promoted to Serie B, a division where they spent a total of 21 seasons (the last time of which was in 1989). In the 1980s, they also had a young Walter Zenga as a goalkeeper in their stint in the Italian second division. In 1994, the club went bankrupt and was successively forced to restart from Eccellenza. In 2000, the club was acquired by Luciano Gaucci and eventually won promotion back to professionalism in 2001 and then to Serie C1 just a year later. Stadio Riviera Delle Palme
The Stadio Riviera delle Palme is a multi-use stadium in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy. It is currently used mostly for association football, football matches and is the home ground of S.S. Alessandro Sbaffo (born 27 August 1990) is an Italian footballer who plays as a midfielder for Sambenedettese. Career He made his Serie A debut for Chievo on 28 March 2010 in a game against Parma. In summer 2010, Sbaffo left for Piacenza in temporary deal for €600,000 along with Cesare Rickler. Both players later banned due to involvement in 2011–12 Italian football scandal. Sbaffo left for Ascoli Calcio 1898 in temporary deal in July 2011. He also received a call-up to Italy U21 B team in the first half of the season. The province of Ascoli Piceno () is a province in the Marche region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Ascoli Piceno, and the province is bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the east, the province of Fermo to the north, and it faces the regions of Umbria and Abruzzo to the south. Coppa Italia Serie C (), formerly named Coppa Italia Lega Pro, is a straight knock-out based competition involving teams from Serie C in Italian football first held in 1972. Format There are a total of six rounds in the competition. It begins in August with the first set, which is contested by 56 out of 60 teams. The other four clubs, which also play in Coppa Italia, join in during the second set. Each game is played as a single leg, except for the semi-finals and the final. If teams are tied (after single leg or on aggregate, no away goal rule applies), the winner is decided by extra-time and a penalty shootout if required.
