APEC Singapore 2009
APEC Singapore 2009 was a series of political meetings held around Singapore between the 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation during 2009. It culminated in the 17th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) held in Singapore from 14 to 15 November 2009. Theme The theme for 2009 is 'Sustaining Growth, Connecting the Region'. APEC Singapore 2009 will build on APEC's work to date in promoting economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment across the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, given today's challenging global economic environment, APEC Singapore 2009 is also focused on overcoming the economic crisis and positioning member economies for a sustainable recovery in the post-crisis world. Muhammad Taufik bin Batisah ( Jawi: محمد توفيق بن بتيسه; born 10 December 1981) is a Singaporean singer-songwriter best known for winning the first season of the reality TV series '' Singapore Idol''. Early life and education Taufik was born to a Malay family of both Indian and Buginese descent. His parents divorced when he was 13 years old. He attended Jurong Primary School, Jurong Secondary School before graduating from Singapore Polytechnic. ''Singapore Idol'' was a Singaporean reality television singing competition produced by Mediacorp, MediaCorp Studios and FremantleMedia Operations BV. It began airing on Channel 5 (Singaporean TV channel), MediaCorp Channel 5 on 9 August 2004 until 27 December 2009, as an addition to the Idol franchise based on the British show Pop Idol, and became one of the most popular shows in the history of Singaporean television. The concept of the series is to find new solo recording artists where the winner is determined by the viewers. The series employed a panel of judges who critique the contestants' performances. APEC Peru 2008 was a series of political meetings held around Peru between the 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation during 2008. Although business leaders of the region also met before the summit officially began. Leaders from all the member countries met during November 22–23, 2008, in the capital city of Lima. The 21 members accounted for approximately 60 percent of the world's gross domestic product. Peruvian history in APEC Peru has been a full member of APEC since 1998. Its participation began when Malaysia hosted the forum's summit in Kuala Lumpur. The admission of Peru into APEC was a result of the coordinated efforts of representatives of the government and the business and academic communities.
