AMP Centre
Quay Quarter Tower is a skyscraper located at 50 Bridge Street, Sydney, Australia. Built as the AMP Centre in 1976, the structure underwent a redevelopment from 2018 to 2021 which increased its height, introduced cantilevers, created additional office space, and modernised the tower's overall form and design. The AMP Centre re-opened as Quay Quarter Tower in early 2022, and stands at a height of with 54 floors. It is the world's first upcycled skyscraper retaining 68% of the existing buildings structure and named World Building of the Year at the 15th annual World Architecture Festival. Bridge Street, Sydney
Bridge Street is a street in the central business district of Sydney, Australia. Bridge Street runs for in a west–east direction with traffic flowing in both directions. It is situated in the northern portion of the central business district. The western terminus of Bridge Street is at George Street, with the eastern terminus at Macquarie Street, adjacent to the Chief Secretary's Building. From west to east, Bridge Street crosses Pitt and Phillip streets. Bridge Street was named by Governor Macquarie in 1810, derived from a small bridge located near the intersection with Pitt Street. In building construction, topping out (sometimes referred to as topping off) is a builders' rite traditionally held when the last beam (or its equivalent) is placed at the top of a structure during its construction. Nowadays, the ceremony is often parlayed into a media event for public relations purposes. It has since come to mean more generally finishing the structure of the building, whether there is a ceremony or not. It is also commonly used to determine the amount of wind on the top of the structure. A Scandinavian tradition of hoisting a pine tree to the top of framed out buildings had a more functional purpose: when the pine needles fell off, the builders knew the wood frame below had cured/dried out so they could enclose the building. Alfred Street is a street in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in the local government area of the City of Sydney. It runs west–east from George Street to Phillip Street. Details The alignment of Albert Street was formed in 1845 when the swamps of the Tank Stream were drained and a seawall built. It was named after Prince Alfred in 1875 when split from Albert Street. To the north it is bounded by the Cahill Expressway, Circular Quay railway station and Circular Quay ferry wharf. To the south lie a number of notable buildings including Gold Fields House, 1 Macquarie Place, Customs House and the AMP Building.
