It is the largest mosque and Islamic centre in the North East of Scotland, and operates two sites within Aberdeen. The Aberdeen Central Mosque site is located on Frederick Street Aberdeen AB24 5HY. The original AMIC Spital Mosque site is located at the Spital, AB24 3JD (near the University) and is still operating as a mosque for locals and students. Purpose Registered as a charitable, non-profitable, non-political organisation, the purpose of AMIC is to hold congregational prayers and Islamic religious activities, with provision of free religious services to members of the Muslim community relating to Islamic marriage, birth, death and burial in accordance with Scottish law. History AMIC (formerly, Asian Mass Communication Research and Information Centre) was founded by the Government of Singapore and the German Social Democratic political party's Friedrich Ebert Foundation in February 1971.
