ALO (band)
Animal Liberation Orchestra (also known casually as ALO) is a California rock band currently signed to Jack Johnson's Brushfire Records label. They have released four full-length albums for Brushfire, as well as a number of prior independent releases including a film soundtrack. ALO consists of Zach Gill (Keys/Vocals), Steve Adams (Bass/Vocals), Dan "Lebo" Lebowitz (Guitar/Vocals) and Ezra Lipp (Drums/Vocals). Biography Forming the band (1989) Childhood friends Lebowitz, Adams and Gill (aka, LAG) formed their first band in junior high school in 1989 with drummer Matt West. Originally called Django, they recorded their first album entitled "Contact" the summer before their senior year in high school, and then moved to Santa Barbara together to attend college. Saratoga, California
Saratoga is a city in Santa Clara County, California. Located in Silicon Valley, in the southern Bay Area, its population was 31,051 at the 2020 census. Saratoga is an affluent residential community, known for its wineries, restaurants, and attractions like Villa Montalvo, Mountain Winery, and Hakone Gardens. History The area comprising Saratoga was earlier inhabited by the Ohlone Native Americans. In 1847, European settlers created a settlement at what is now Saratoga when William Campbell (father of Benjamin Campbell, the founder of nearby Campbell, California), constructed a sawmill about southeast of the present downtown area. An early map noted the area as Campbell's Gap. In 1851, Martin McCarthy, who had leased the mill, built a toll road down to the Santa Clara Valley, and founded what is now Saratoga as ''McCarthysville''. Jay Alders is an American fine artist, photographer and graphic designer. He is best known for his original surf art paintings, live painting and is a well-known profile in surf culture for his work with musicians, artists and cause organizations. Early life Born in Lakewood Township, New Jersey Alders was raised near the Jersey Shore in Howell Township, New Jersey. This environment provided an early-childhood influence for beach culture. Alders openly attributes surfing as one of his artistic inspirations. He graduated from Howell High School in 1991. ''Fly Between Falls'' was the first album by Animal Liberation Orchestra to be released on Brushfire Records, although it was not their first record. It was originally released on Lagmusic Records in 2005 but was re-released on Brushfire in 2006. It features Brushfire artist Jack Johnson on the track "Girl I Wanna Lay You Down." New to the re-released version of the album is the track "Walls of Jericho," which has become a crowd favorite. Nathan Moore (at times identified under the pen name Percy BoydCook, Dennis"The Many Worlds of Nathan Moore" ''JamBase''. October 23, 2007. Retrieved March 28, 2008.) is a United States-based folk music guitarist and singer-songwriter best known for being a founding member of both ThaMuseMeant and Surprise Me Mr. Davis. Moore has also released numerous solo albums on Frogville Records, an independent record company he co-founded with John Treadwell. A prolific songwriter, Moore has written over one thousand songs. Chris Velan
Chris Velan is a Montreal-based singer-songwriter and guitarist. Career While in college, he studied law. After passing the bar, he traveled to West Africa where he was the music producer of a documentary film about a group of refugee musicians from Sierra Leone. In 2003 Velan returned from West Africa, releasing his debut solo album ''It's Not What You Think'', which incorporated a mix of his old and new influences ranging from folk, pop and rock to world music and reggae. Galactic
Galactic is an American jam band from New Orleans, Louisiana. Origins and background Formed in 1994 as an octet (under the name Galactic Prophylactic) and including singer Chris Lane and guitarist Rob Gowen, the group was soon pared down to a sextet of: guitarist Jeff Raines, bassist Robert Mercurio, drummer Stanton Moore, Hammond organist Rich Vogel, Theryl DeClouet on vocals, and later adding saxophonist Ben Ellman. The group was started when Raines and Mercurio, childhood friends from affluent Chevy Chase, Maryland, moved to New Orleans together to attend college at Tulane and Loyola Universities, became enamored of the local funk scene, populated by such legendary acts as The Meters and Dirty Dozen Brass Band and inspired by local legends such as Professor Longhair. Jay Blakesberg (born December 1, 1961) is an American, San Francisco-based, photographer and film maker. Biography His suburban youth was spent mostly in Clark, New Jersey, where he first discovered a passion for taking pictures. As a young teenager, Blakesberg began taking his father's Pentax camera to local concerts. The Grateful Dead performed at the Meadowlands in 1978 and was the first Dead show he photographed. A few years on the road with a group of people called Deadheads resulted in the beginning of a body of photographic work that continues to this day.
