AK Azad Khan
AK Azad Khan is a physician and a social worker from Bangladesh. In 2018, he was awarded the Independence Award for his contributions in social-welfare. He was appointed National Professor by the government of Bangladesh in 2021. On 1958 AK Azad Khan passed with highest marks in matriculation from Saint Alfred's High School in Padrishibpur. Later in 1960 he passed intermediate from Dhaka College and complete his medical degrees from Dhaka Medical College. AK Azad Khan's wife is the physician professor Kishowar Azad. Khan's father-in-law is the national professor and founder of BIRDEM, Muhammad Ibrahim. Khan has two sons Faruq Azam Khan and Foyez Aseef Khan. The Independence Day Award ( bn, স্বাধীনতা পদক), also termed Independence Award ( bn, স্বাধীনতা পুরস্কার), Swadhinata Padak, and Swadhinata Puroskar, is the highest state award given by the government of Bangladesh. Introduced in 1977 by president Ziaur Rahman, this award is bestowed upon Bangladeshi citizens or organizations in recognition of substantial contribution to one of many fields, including the War of Liberation, the Language Movement, education, literature, journalism, public service, science and technology, medical science, social science, song, games and sports, fine arts, rural development, and other areas. Each awardee receives a gold medal, a certificate of honour, and 500,000 Bangladeshi takas (US$5803). It is awarded by the president of Bangladesh according to ''Bangladesh National Professor Resolution (appointment, conditions and facilities) 1981''. Dhaka College ( bn, ঢাকা কলেজ also known as DC) is the oldest secular educational institution of Bangladesh located in Dhaka. It offers higher secondary education ( HSC). It has Honours and Masters programs as well which are affiliated to the University of Dhaka. History Dhaka College is one of Bangladesh's most important as well as earliest higher-secondary educational institutions. It was established by James Taylor Wise (civil surgeon at Dhaka) in 1835 as an English Seminary School (present Dhaka Collegiate School). Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (abbreviated DMCH) is a public medical college and hospital located in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. It houses medical school as well as a tertiary care hospital on one campus. The country's first ever autologous bone marrow transplant took place in its bone marrow transplant unit. BIRDEM
BIRDEM, the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders at Shahbag, Dhaka, Bangladesh, is a 600-bed multidisciplinary hospital complex of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh. The hospital was established in 1980 with the financial support of Bangladesh. In BIRDEM, 3,000 patients are treated in the Out Patients Department (OPD) every day. No other hospital in Bangladesh serves so many diabetes patients. History The Diabetic Association for Pakistan (later Bangladesh Diabetic Association) was formed under the leadership of national professor Muhammad Ibrahim in February 1956. Muhammad Ibrahim
Muhammad Ibrahim ( bn, মোহাম্মদ ইব্রাহিম; – 6 September 1989) was a Bangladeshi physician. He established Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders ( BIRDEM), the diabetes health-care and research institute complex in 1980. The Government of Bangladesh awarded him National Professor and the Independence Day Award in 1978. Education Ibrahim earned a Bachelor of Medicine degree in 1938. He became MRCP in 1949. He was made a Fellow of College of Chest Physicians (FCCP) in 1950. Career Ibrahim established Diabetic Association of Pakistan (later Diabetic Association of Bangladesh) on 28 February 1956.
