The American Football League All-Star game was the annual game which featured each year's best performers in the American Football League (AFL). The game was first played in 1961 and the final AFL All-Star game occurred in 1969, prior to the league's merger with the National Football League (NFL). All-League Teams ''The Sporting News'' published American Football League All-League Teams for each season played by the American Football League, 1960 through 1969. From 1960 through 1966, the All-League Team was selected by the AFL players, and from 1967 through 1969 it was selected by a consensus of ''The Sporting News'' (''TSN''), the Associated Press (AP), United Press International (UPI), and the Newspaper Enterprise Association (NEA). Balboa Stadium
Balboa Stadium is an outdoor stadium in San Diego, California, adjacent to San Diego High School and Balboa Park. Owned by the City of San Diego, it is leased to San Diego Unified School District. The stadium is used for local athletics and high school events. It has been the home of the San Diego High School Cavers athletic teams since it opened in 1915. The original stadium was built in 1914 as part of the 1915 Panama–California Exposition with a capacity of 15,000. The stadium expanded in the 1960s to a capacity of 34,000. Due to seismic safety concerns, it was demolished in the 1970s and a smaller venue with a 3,000-seat capacity was built, opening in 1978. History Of The Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are a professional American football franchise that began play in 1960 as the Dallas Texans. The team was a charter member of the American Football League (AFL), and now play in the National Football League (NFL). The team is not related to the earlier Dallas Texans NFL team that played for only one season in 1952. The Texans won the 1962 AFL Championship and relocated to Kansas City, Missouri the following year, becoming the Chiefs. The quarterback (QB) is a position in gridiron football who are members of the offensive side of the ball and mostly line up directly behind the Lineman (football), offensive line. In modern American football, the quarterback is usually considered the leader of the offense, and is often responsible for calling the play in the huddle. Francis Marion "Cotton" Davidson (November 30, 1931 – December 23, 2022) was an American football quarterback and punter in the National Football League (NFL) and American Football League (AFL). Davidson attended Baylor University, and played professionally for the NFL's Baltimore Colts (1954, 1957), and the AFL's Dallas Texans (1960–1962) and Oakland Raiders (1962–1968). Davidson has the record for the lowest career completion percentage in NFL history, minimum 1500 passing attempts, at 43.9%. Professional career Davidson was selected in the first round of the 1954 NFL draft by the Baltimore Colts. In addition to playing quarterback, he also was a placekicker and punter. Clemon Daniels Jr. (July 9, 1937 – March 23, 2019) was an American professional football halfback who played in the American Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (NFL). College career Daniels attended Doty High School, an all-black school in McKinney, Texas. His mother worked as a housekeeper to a bank chairman but one moment that stuck with Daniels was after a celebration of his scholarship offer to Prairie View A&M University. She told him that the next time he came by the chairman's house, he was to come through the back door. At Prairie View A&M University, he was voted to All-Conference honors during his sophomore and junior years, and he captained the NAIA National Football Championship team in his senior year. Carlton Chester "Cookie" Gilchrist (May 25, 1935 – January 10, 2011) was an American football fullback who played in the American Football League (AFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was named the AFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) with the Buffalo Bills in 1962. He was named to the AFL All-Time Second-team. Career A star player at Har-Brack High School in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, in 1953 he led the team to the W.P.I.A.L. co-championship with Donora. As a junior, he was talked into signing a professional football contract with the NFL's Cleveland Browns by Paul Brown.
