AFAS Stadion
AFAS Stadion is a stadium in Alkmaar, Netherlands. It is used for association football, football matches and is the home stadium of AZ Alkmaar. AZ Alkmaar (women), AZ's women's team also plays select matches in the stadium. The stadium is able to hold 19,478 people and bears the name of a Dutch software company. Due to UEFA's sponsorship regulations, the stadium is named AZ Stadion in European matches. History The stadium officially opened on 4 August 2006 with a Exhibition game, friendly against Arsenal F.C., Arsenal. AZ lost 3–0, with Gilberto Silva scoring the stadium's first ever goal. AZ won the first Eredivisie game in its new home, 8–1 over NAC Breda, with German midfielder Simon Cziommer scoring a hat-trick. The Alkmaarderhout is a football stadium in Alkmaarderhout, a city park in Alkmaar, North Holland, Netherlands. It was used from 1948 until 2006, when it was replaced by the AFAS Stadion. The Alkmaarderhout was the home ground of Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar. The stadium had a capacity of 8,914 people. In 2006, it was replaced by the new, state-of-the-art AFAS Stadion (then known as the DSB Stadion) and it was knocked down later that year. The Bingoal Stadion is a multi-use stadium in The Hague, Netherlands, designed by Zwarts & Jansma Architects. Completed in 2007, the stadium is used mostly for football and field hockey. It is the home stadium of ADO Den Haag and ADO Den Haag Vrouwen. It has a capacity of 15,000 people, and replaced ADO's former stadium Zuiderpark, which was considerably smaller. Due to UEFA's sponsorship regulations, the stadium is named ADO Den Haag Stadium for European matches. DSB Bank (''DSB: Dirk Scheringa Beheer'') was a Dutch bank and insurer that failed in 2009. Its loans were managed under ''Quion'' from June 2013 until June 2016 when ''Finqus'' began operating as the former DSB Bank. In 2018 ''Finqus BV'' took over DSB Bank and operated as a subsidiary of DSB Group. Finqus BV turned over its loan portfolio to NIBC Bank on 21 July 2021. Siege Of Alkmaar
The siege of Alkmaar (1573) was a turning point in the Eighty Years' War. The burghers of the Dutch city of Alkmaar held off the Spanish (who had set up their camp in Oudorp) between 21 August and 8 October 1573, with boiling tar and burning branches from their renewed city walls. On 23 September William the Silent followed up on a request by Cabeliau dating from the beginning of the siege and ordered the dikes surrounding Alkmaar to be breached, thereby flooding the polders in which the Spanish troops were camped, like the Achtermeer polder. This forced the Spanish commander, Don Fadrique, the son of the hated Alba himself, to retreat and the last Spanish soldiers left on 8 October 1573. The end of the siege is considered a turning point in the Eighty Years' War as Alkmaar was the first city to overcome a siege by the Spanish army. Simon Cziommer
Simon Cziommer (; born 6 November 1980) is a German former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Since he joined FC Twente in 1999 he scored 28 goals for various clubs. He played in UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League games, the latter with his former club FC Schalke 04. A goalscoring attacking midfielder, Cziommer is known as a good dribbler. He was signed by AZ Alkmaar from Schalke 04 just before the start of the 2006–07 season. In the 2008–09 season, he played on loan with FC Utrecht from AZ and signed on 22 June 2009 to FC Red Bull Salzburg where he played until 2012.
