AD Bairro (basketball)
Associação Desportiva do Bairro Craveiro Lopes, simply known as AD Bairro or ADESBA for short, is a basketball club based in the neighborhood of Craveiro Lopes, just west of the Platô, center of Praia on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. The team is a member of the Santiago South Basketball Championships, Santiago South Regional Basketball Association. It is one of four sporting departments of ADESBA. The club won three national championship titles. Its current president is Carlos Sena Teixeira and the nickname is ''Canarinha'', which is Portuguese for the little canary. Fidel Mendonça (born 7 July 1984) is a Cape Verdean basketball player for Prédio and the Cape Verde national basketball team. Standing at , he plays as shooting guard. Club career From 2010 to 2013, Mendonça played in Portugal for second division Proliga club Sport Algés e Dafundo. Mendonça played several seasons for AD Bairro. Joel Freitas Almeida (born October 11, 1985) is a Cape Verdean-Portuguese basketball player who is currently playing for FAP in the Basketball Africa League qualification tournament. University career Joel Almeida went to the northeastern United States, where he attended Mohawk Valley Community College between 2006 and 2008 in Utica, New York and played for the NJCAA's Division III, in 2008, he played with Brockport State for one season, a college located west of Rochester which took part in the NCAA's Division III. Estádio Da Várzea
Estádio da Várzea is a multi-purpose stadium in Praia, Cape Verde just west of the city center's plateau in the subdivision of Várzea and on Avenida Cidade de Lisboa on its east side. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 8,000 people. The stadium is owned by the city of Praia and is operated by the Santiago South Regional Football Association and serves its headquarters of the association. The other stadium operated by the association in the south of the island is Calabaceira. The entrance is on the west side of the stadium where most of the seat is. The stadium has seat rows in the left and right sides, 200 meters east is the Plateau of Praia.
