ADAM Program
The ADAM Automated Delivery of Alerts on Missing Children Program, commonly known as the ADAM Program, is an alert system that is used to help recover missing children throughout the United States. In 1981 Adam Walsh, son of John and Revé Walsh, went missing. His parents set up the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in 1984 and later partnered with LexisNexis Risk Solutions who developed and donated the alert system program to NCMEC, which was named in honour of Adam Walsh. The program has been operating since 2000. The ADAM Program uses technology to distribute a poster with a photo and information about a missing child to targeted recipients ⸺ including members of law enforcement, news media, schools, businesses, medical centers and individuals within a specific geographic search area. National Center For Missing & Exploited Children
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) is a private, nonprofit organization established in 1984 by the United States Congress. In September 2013, the United States House of Representatives, United States Senate, and the President of the United States reauthorized the allocation of $40 million in funding for the organization as part of Missing Children's Assistance Reauthorization Act of 2013. The current chair of the organization is Jon Grosso of Kohl's. NCMEC handles cases of missing minors from infancy to young adults through age 20. Operations Primarily funded by the United States Department of Justice, the NCMEC acts as an information clearinghouse and resource for parents, children, law enforcement agencies, schools, and communities to assist in locating missing children and to raise public awareness about ways to prevent child abduction, and child sexual abuse. National Missing Children's Day
National Missing Children's Day has been commemorated in the United States on May 25, since 1983, when it was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan. It falls on the same day as the International Missing Children's Day, which was established in 2001. In the several years preceding the establishment of National Missing Children's day, a series of high-profile missing-children cases made national headlines. On May 25, 1979, Etan Patz was only six years old when he disappeared from his New York City home on his way from bus to school. The date of his disappearance was designated as National Missing Children's Day. At the time, cases of missing children rarely garnered national media attention, but his case quickly received extensive coverage. John Walsh (television Host)
John Edward Walsh, Jr. (born December 26, 1945) is an American television presenter, criminologist, victims' rights activist, and the host/creator of ''America's Most Wanted''. He is known for his anti-crime activism, with which he became involved following the murder of Adam Walsh, murder of his son, Adam, in 1981; in 2008, deceased serial killer Ottis Toole was officially named as Adam's killer. Walsh was part-owner of the now defunct National Museum of Crime and Punishment in Washington, D.C. He also anchored an investigative documentary series, ''The Hunt with John Walsh'', which debuted on CNN in 2014. Early life Walsh was born in Auburn, New York, one of four children born to John E. Walsh, Sr. and Jean Walsh. He graduated from Auburn's Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in 1963.
