ABC News (TV Channel)
The ABC News channel is an Australian 24-hour news channel launched and owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The channel replaced and used the then-former ABC HD channel space (which simulcast ABC TV in high definition) and commenced broadcasting as ABC News 24 at 7:30pm (AEST) on Thursday, 22 July 2010. The network is a division of '' the ABC's News and Current Affairs department''. The majority of the channel's content is produced from the studios of the ABC's Sydney station, ABN, in Ultimo, Sydney which the public can view being presented from an atrium looking into the news presentation studio. 576i is a standard-definition television, standard-definition digital video mode, originally used for Digitization, digitizing 625 lines, 625 line Analog television, analogue television in most countries of the world where the utility frequency for electric power distribution is 50 Hz. Freeview is the brand name of the digital terrestrial television platform in Australia intended to bring all of free-to-air (FTA) broadcasters onto a consistent marketing platform, to compete against subscription television, in particular Foxtel. The strategy coincided with the expansion to 3 digital channels for each FTA network and the phasing out of analogue television in Australia. Important services from Freeview include its free-to-air channels with an enhanced EPG (electronic program guide) across all channels. Freeview also certifies televisions, set-top boxes and personal video recorders (PVR) which meet its standards. TV Tonight is an Australian-based website which features reviews, news and programming information related to television in Australia as well as OzTAM ratings information. The site was started by television critic David Knox in 2007 after listeners of his radio programs asked him for information they had missed. Knox runs the site, publishing his interviews with Australian media actors, producers, directors and programmers. Knox regularly visits the sets of Australian television series and reviews television programs. Knox also served as television critic for ABC Radio National's breakfast program from 2009 to 2015.
