A4540 Road
The Middleway, officially designated as the A4540 and signposted as ring road, is an orbital road in Birmingham, England. Serving as the sole ring road of the city, it runs around Birmingham city centre at a distance of approximately . The A38 (including the Queensway tunnels) cuts through it vertically. History The ring road was planned and designed by Herbert Manzoni. It was then known as the Middle Ring Road, due to the existence of the now-defunct Inner Ring Road, and as a result it is now often referred to as simply the "Ring Road". The Middleway forms the boundary to Birmingham Clean Air Zone, although the road itself is not part of the zone. Plans to make The Middleway a red route were proposed as early as 2008 but dropped in 2021. A456 Road
Known as the Hagley Road in Birmingham, the A456 is a main road in England running between Central Birmingham and Woofferton, Shropshire, south of Ludlow. Some sections of the route, for example Edgbaston near Bearwood, are also the route of the Elan Aqueduct which carries Birmingham's water supply from the Elan Valley. Five Ways Island
Five Ways is an area of Central Birmingham, England. It takes its name from a major road junction, now a busy roundabout (with pedestrian subways through a traffic island) to the south-west of the city centre which lies at the outward end of Broad Street, where the Birmingham Middle ring road crosses the start of the A456 (Hagley Road). History The name of Five Ways dates back to 1565, when roads leading to Harborne and Halesowen were recorded as being located there. Mary Anne Schimmelpenninck, who lived at Five Ways until 1785, describes the origins of its name as a result of the location being the junction of five roadways. Five Ways was disturnpiked in 1841, after disputes over the repair of the roadways in the area. A441 is an A-road in England which runs from central Birmingham to Cookhill, Worcestershire. Route The A441 starts on the A4540 The Middleway in Birmingham as a non primary route, running largely parallel to the A38. It passes Calthorpe Park and the suburbs of Selly Park, Stirchley, Cotteridge, Kings Norton and West Heath before leaving the West Midlands and entering Worcestershire. The village of Alvechurch is bypassed to the East, connecting with the M42 at junction 2, where there is a service station. Upon entering Redditch the A441 follows new town dual carriageway roads built in the early to mid-1970s including a short concurrence with the A448 where it gains primary status. The A435 is a main road in England running between Birmingham and Cirencester (although most of the section between Alcester and just North of Cheltenham has been reclassified as the A46 road, A46). Highgate Middleway
Highgate is an area of Birmingham, England. Following the Big City Plan of February 2008, Highgate has become a district of Birmingham City Centre. The area is regarded as the site of the original Anglo-Saxon settlement which gave the city of Birmingham its name. Birmingham Central Mosque is one of Highgate's most distinctive buildings. The area mainly consists of commercial premises and modern council-owned residential properties. Camp Hill Circus
Camp Hill is a road and surrounding area in Birmingham, West Midlands, England, south east of the city centre. The area's name was first recorded as ''Kempe Hill'', derived from a family name, in 1511, but it became known as Camp Hill after Prince Rupert set camp there in 1643, prior to the Battle of Camp Hill, during the English Civil War, reputedly using the Ship Inn as his headquarters. The area is dominated by a former Commissioners' Church, the Church of the Holy Trinity, designed by Francis Goodwin in decorated perpendicular gothic style and built from Bath stone in 1820–1822. A45 Road
The A45 is a major road in England. It runs east from Birmingham past the National Exhibition Centre and the M42 motorway, M42, then bypasses Coventry and Rugby, Warwickshire, Rugby, where it briefly merges with the M45 motorway, M45 until it continues to Daventry. It then heads to Northampton and Wellingborough before running north of Rushden and Higham Ferrers and terminating at its junction with the A14 road (England), A14 in Thrapston.
