A1 Team Ireland was the Irish team of A1 Grand Prix, an international racing series. The team were the A1 Grand Prix champions for the fourth season, 2008-09. The team Founded by Mark Kershaw and Mark Gallagher in 2005, the team was owned and run by Status Grand Prix. In 2008, Mark Kershaw sold his interest in the team. The new the seat holders were Mark Gallagher, Teddy Yip Jr., John P. Hynes and David Kennedy. History The inaugural team's 2005-06 car was presented to the public on 15 September 2005. For that debut season, Ralph Firman was the team's principal driver, scoring the team its first podium in Portugal to finish 8th overall in the championship. Gibson Technology is an automotive and motorsport company based at Repton, Derbyshire, England. It was founded by Bill Gibson and Brian Mason as Zytek Engineering in 1981. Ownership history In 1981 Gibson and Mason founded the Zytek Group with two main divisions: Zytek Automotive, based at Fradley, Staffordshire; and Zytek Engineering, based at Repton, Derbyshire. In 2000, Motorola procured 19% of the Zytek Automotive. 2005–06 A1 Grand Prix Season
The 2005–06 A1 Grand Prix season was the inaugural season for the A1 Grand Prix series. It began on 25 September 2005, and finished on 2 April 2006 after eleven races. Calendar The first A1 Grand Prix season consisted of 11 rounds, all held in different countries. Each event ran over a three-day weekend, including a practice session on each of Friday and Saturday before a qualifying session on Saturday and two races on Sunday. Calendar changes * A race was scheduled to be held in Brazil at the Autódromo Internacional de Curitiba over the weekend of 10–12 February 2006, but was later cancelled. * The 2005–06 A1 Grand Prix of Nations, Indonesia, Indonesian round had originally been scheduled to be held over 13–15 January 2006, but was postponed due to the death of Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
