A.V. Undercover
''A.V. Undercover'' is an American live music web series created by ''The A.V. Club'', distributed on their website. The series premiered on March 16, 2010, going into an extended hiatus after the 8th season in 2017. It was revived for a 9th season in June 2024. The concept of the show is that each season, a list of 25 songs is compiled. Bands are then invited to choose a song to cover. Once a song has been played, it gets crossed off the list. The later a band comes on, the fewer songs they have to choose from. In the first season, ''The A.V. Club'' staff picked the songs. In the remaining seasons, readers of ''The A.V. Club'' voted for them. At the end of a season, there was an online vote for the favorite video. In between season, there were mini seasons of Holiday Undercover (where each artist chose a song with a holiday theme) and Summer Break, where artists covered "songs having to do with summer". Archers Of Loaf
Archers of Loaf is an American indie rock band originally formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 1991. The group toured extensively and released four studio albums, one compilation, numerous singles and EPs, and a live album which was released after the band broke up in 1998. The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys are an American Rock music, rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian Wilson, Brian, Dennis Wilson, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine. Kokomo (song)
"Kokomo" is a song by the American rock band the Beach Boys from the 1988 film ''Cocktail'' and album ''Still Cruisin'''. Written by John Phillips, Scott McKenzie, Mike Love, and Terry Melcher, the song was released as a single in July 1988 by Elektra Records and became a number-one hit in the US and Australia. It was the band's first original top-20 single in 20 years and their first number-one hit in 22 years as well as their final top-40 hit. The lyrics describe two lovers taking a trip to a fictional place called Kokomo. Not much is known about it except that it is located off the Florida Keys and is compared to other real destinations in the Caribbean islands including Aruba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Martinique and Montserrat, as well as Key Largo, Florida and the North Atlantic island of Bermuda. Retribution Gospel Choir
Retribution Gospel Choir is an indie rock band based in Duluth, Minnesota. Current members of the band include Alan Sparhawk (guitar, vocals, sampler) and Steve Garrington (bass), both of whom were also in the band Low (band), Low, and Actual Wolf, Eric Pollard (drums, vocals). Despite sharing the majority of their members, RGC's high-energy performance differs greatly from Low's subdued, minimalist feel. Until 2008, Matt Livingston, also bassist with Low, played bass for the band. Sparhawk's wife and Low bandmate Mimi Parker appears on vocals on one Retribution Gospel Choir track. Atlantic City (song)
"Atlantic City" is a song written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen, which first appeared on his 1982 solo album ''Nebraska''. He has often played the song in a full band arrangement in concert. Recording background Springsteen wrote in his ''Greatest Hits'' sleeve notes that he recorded "Atlantic City" in his bedroom "for $1,050 (the cost of the four-track Tascam recorder), mixed through an old Gibson guitar unit to a beat box". Timothy J. Kasher (born August 19, 1974) is an American musician from Omaha, Nebraska, and is the frontman of indie rock groups Cursive and the Good Life, both of which are on the Omaha-based record label Saddle Creek Records. Music Slowdown Virginia Slowdown Virginia was formed in Omaha in 1993 by Kasher with Matt Maginn, Steve Pedersen, and Casey Caniglia after the dissolution of a previous band called The March Hares. With a sound described as a heartland Pavement and into the Pixies, Slowdown Virginia recorded and released one album, ''Dead Space'', on Lumberjack Records, with the help of funding from friends. Starship is an American rock band from San Francisco, California. Initially a continuation of Jefferson Starship, it underwent a change in musical direction, the subsequent loss of personnel, and a lawsuit settlement that led to a name change.
