9th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment (Confederate)
The 9th Louisiana Cavalry Regiment, also known as Ogden's Cavalry, was a Confederate unit in the American Civil War. The unit was commanded by Colonel Frederick Nash Ogden. Although the unit was called a cavalry regiment, it was more properly classified as a mounted infantry unit. History The regiment was organized in January 1865 in Mississippi, under the command of Colonel Ogden. Colonel Ogden was a veteran of the Siege of Vicksburg. During that battle, then-Major Ogden had served in the 8th Louisiana Heavy Artillery Battalion from March 29-July 3, 1863. When this new cavalry unit was formed, Ogden received under his command three or four companies from Gober's Regiment of Mounted Infantry, three companies formerly with the 14th Confederate Cavalry Regiment, one company from his own temporary battalion, and two recently organized companies. A regiment is a military unit. Its role and size varies markedly, depending on the country, military service, service, or administrative corps, specialisation. Iberville Parish
Iberville Parish () is a parish located south of Baton Rouge in the U.S. state of Louisiana, formed in 1807. The parish seat is Plaquemine. The population was 30,241 at the 2020 census. History The parish is named for Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville, who founded the French colony of Louisiana. A few archaeological efforts have been made in the parish, mainly to excavate the Native American burial mounds that have been identified there. The first expedition, led by Clarence B. Moore, was an attempt at collecting data from a couple of the sites, and it set the groundwork for later projects. Moore was mainly interested in the skeletal remains of the previous inhabitants, rather than excavating for archaeological items. Archaeologists are especially interested in these sites because of their uniformity and size. Some of the mounds are seven hundred feet long, a hundred feet wide and six feet tall. East Feliciana Parish (, ) is a parish located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. At the 2020 census, the population was 19,531. The parish seat is Clinton. Established when Feliciana Parish was divided in 1824, both East and West Feliciana parishes are part of the Baton Rouge metropolitan statistical area. They are also considered part of the Florida Parishes, at one time part of Spain's West Florida colony. Citronelle is a city on the northern border of Mobile County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 3,946. It is included in the Mobile metropolitan statistical area and is about north of Mobile. History The area was inhabited by indigenous peoples for thousands of years.
