The 8th Guards Combined Arms Army (abbreviated 8th GCAA) is an army of the Russian Ground Forces, headquartered in Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast, within Russia′s Southern Military District, that was formed in 2017. Combined arms is an approach to warfare that seeks to integrate different combat arms of a military to achieve mutually complementary effects—for example, using infantry and armoured warfare, armour in an Urban warfare, urban environment in which each supports the other. Ramzan Akhmatovich Kadyrov (born 5 October 1976) is a Russian politician and current head of the Chechen Republic. He was formerly affiliated with the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Chechen independence movement, through his father who was the separatist-appointed mufti of Chechnya. 2022 Chornobaivka Attacks
The 2022 Chornobaivka attacks were a series of Ukrainian attacks against the Russian-held Kherson International Airport at Chornobaivka, which began on 27 February 2022 during the southern Ukraine campaign of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Chornobaivka, located in Ukraine's Kherson Oblast, saw dozens of attacks on Russian positions by the Ukrainian Armed Forces following a bombing and takeover by the Russian Armed Forces of the town's airport. According to Ukraine, these attacks resulted in the death of the Russian general Yakov Rezantsev of the 49th Combined Arms Army on 24 March. Chornobaivka (, ) is a suburban Village#Ukraine, village in Kherson Raion, Kherson Oblast, southern Ukraine. It is the center of the Municipal council, village council. Killed in action (KIA) is a casualty classification generally used by militaries to describe the deaths of their personnel at the hands of enemy or hostile forces at the moment of action. The United States Department of Defense, for example, says that those declared KIA did not need to have fired their weapons, but only to have been killed due to hostile attack. Andrey Nikolayevich Mordvichev (; born 14 January 1976) is a Russian colonel general who has been Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces since 2025. He previously commanded the Central Military District and the "Center" group of forces during the Russian invasion of Ukraine from 2023 to 2025. Oleg Mityaev (general)
Oleg Yuryevich Mityaev (; (born c. 1974) is a Russian lieutenant general who according to Ukrainian officials was killed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine on 15 March 2022. His death, however, has not been confirmed, and in December 2024 it was revealed that he is alive and still in service. Since May 2024, he is also commander of the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army. The 150th Guards Motor Rifle Berlin-Idritsa Order of Kutuzov Division () of the Russian Ground Forces is a motorized rifle division that was re-instituted in 2016. It is part of the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army, which was reformed in 2017, in the Southern Military District. Its Red Army predecessor fought on the Eastern Front of World War II from 1941 to 1945. It gained fame when its soldiers raised the Soviet flag over the Reichstag on May 2, 1945.
