ZAI Awards
The ZAI Awards (''Hudobný fond'' or HF) are a Slovak music accolade presented by ''Zväz autorov a interprétov populárnej hudby'' (ZAI) to recognize outstanding achievements in the industry for the preceding year in the region. In the early phase, the annual ceremonies were held in association with the local Music Fund (HF) and International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Slovakia (SNS IFPI). For that reason, their follow-up equivalents were frequently renamed; once after the American Gramies (1996–1997). Following a 1997 protest of the U.S. NARAS management against the Czech music awards, also called likewise, the Slovak organization decided to change the adopted name too, renaming then trophies after the Artmedia Music Academy (1998–2000), also established by ZAI. Miroslav Žbirka
Miroslav "Miro" Žbirka (21 October 1952 – 10 November 2021) was a Slovak pop and rock singer and songwriter, widely popular in 1980s Czechoslovakia. Born in Bratislava to a Slovak father and an English mother, he sang in Slovak, English, and Czech. He sometimes recorded in London, but lived in Slovakia and since early 1990s in Prague, Czech Republic, where he died. In the late 1970s, Žbirka co-founded two Czechoslovak pop music bands, Modus and Limit. In 1982, he rose to fame by winning the annual Zlatý slavík award for the best male singer in Czechoslovakia. After the 1992 division of Czechoslovakia, he repeated this achievement in the Slovak annual Slávik Awards, coming number one in the annual end of year charts in 2002, 2004 and 2005. Žbirka had some performances with Jon Anderson in 2012. Ladislav Lučenič
Laco Lučenič (born 23 November 1952) is a Slovak musician and music producer. He is known as a former member of such Slovak bands as Fermáta, Prúdy, Modus, and Limit. He became popular for his role as a judge on the Slovak Pop Idol (''Slovensko hľadá SuperStar''). Growing up in the 1960s, he became fascinated by the "electrifying" music of the Beatles, Kinks, Rolling Stones, and others. In his project called "Satisfactory", he plays music from the 1960s. Ivan Tásler
Ivan Tásler (born 16 July 1979 in Prešov, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak singer, guitarist, composer, and producer. His career is closely connected with the band IMT Smile. The history of IMT Smile started in 1992 when it was founded by brothers Ivan and Miro Táslers whose initial letters have given the name to the band. Later, the band has changed the name several times (Epitath, Ruka) and finally, in 1995, it was renamed to IMT Smile again. In that time, nine musicians were a part of the group. In 1997, the first album was released. ''"Klik-klak"'' had a great success in Slovak charts, the song "''Nepoznám''" became a number one in a very short time. Peter Dvorský
Peter Dvorský (born 25 September 1951) is a Slovak operatic tenor. Possessing a lyrical voice with a soft, elastic tone, and warm and melodious timbre, Dvorský's repertoire concentrates on roles from the Italian and Slavic repertories. Dvorský was born in Horná Ves, then Czechoslovakia, now Slovakia. Family background Dvorský has four brothers, three of whom are also successful opera singers: Jaroslav Dvorský, Miroslav Dvorský and Pavol Dvorský. His other brother, Vendelín Dvorský, is an economist. Operatic career Dvorský studied under Ida Černecká at the Bratislava State Conservatory. Ján, also credited as Janko Lehotský (born 16 April 1947) is a Slovak composer and former leader of the Modus band. Lehotský began his performing career when he was four years old, when he performed in a marionette theater. He was a freelance composer during the Velvet Revolution. Richard Müller (singer)
Richard Müller (born 6 September 1961) is a Slovak singer, songwriter, and occasional actor. He is one of the most successful singers in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where he has sold more than one million records. Biography He started as a music journalist. In the beginning of the 1980s, while studying the theory of drama and screenplay at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), he started writing for the daily paper and the only specialized periodical at the time, ''Popular'', and, later, for ''Gramorevue''. As a journalist, in his own words, he could get close to the musicians he admired easier. His first song, ''Radio'', was recorded with the Burčiak Pavla Daněka band. Pavol Habera (born Pavel Habera, 12 April 1962, in Brezno, Czechoslovakia), better known as Paľo Habera, is a Slovak singer, musician, composer, and musical actor. He gained popularity in the 1980s as the leader of the rock band TEAM and has since been known through his successful solo career, and most recently as a judge on the television shows '' SuperStar Search Slovakia'' and '' SuperStar'', based on the British music competition television series '' Pop Idol''.
