The 6ix
The name of Toronto has a history distinct from that of the city itself. Originally, the term "''Tkaronto''" referred to a channel of water between Lake Simcoe and Lake Couchiching, at what is now the city of Orillia, on maps as early as 1675 but in time the name passed southward, and was eventually applied to a new fort at the mouth of the Humber River. Fort Toronto was the first European settlement in the area, and lent its name to what became the city of Toronto. John Graves Simcoe identified the area as a strategic location to base a new capital for Upper Canada, believing Newark to be susceptible to American invasion. A garrison was established at Garrison Creek, on the western entrance to the docks of Toronto Harbour, in 1793; this later became Fort York. The settlement it defended was renamed York on August 26, 1793, as Simcoe favoured English names over those of First Nations languages, in honour of Prince Frederick, Duke of York. Arjun Ivatury (born February 17, 1991), known professionally as 6ix, is an American record producer best known for his work with Maryland-based rapper Logic, serving as his go-to producer since 2009. 6ix and Logic were both associated with independent record label Visionary Music Group, and the former has produced the near-entirety of Logic's early projects, namely '' Bobby Tarantino'' and ''Under Pressure''. Early life and career Ivatury is a native of Bowie, Maryland, being the son of Telugu-speaking Hindu immigrant parents originally from India. He comes from a white-collar Indian American background; his father and mother being a doctor and engineer respectively as well as his brother being an aerospace engineer at NASA. Before he became a full-time producer, 6ix attended the University of Maryland, College Park, where he majored in neurology and physiology. Fly 6ix is a former passenger airline with its head office in Freetown, Sierra Leone, operating out of Lungi International Airport. History The airline was founded in 2010 by the UK-based MediCall Group of companies. Passenger flights commenced in January 2011. At the inauguration of passenger services, Ernest Koroma, President of Sierra Leone, officially designated Fly 6ix as the national carrier of Sierra Leone. Fly 6ix served four West African cities with a single Embraer 135 aircraft. The airline has ceased operating. Fly6ix Limited resolved 3 December 2012 to be wound up voluntarily.
