69th Venice International Film Festival
The 69th annual Venice International Film Festival, was held from 29 August to 8 September 2012, at Venice Lido in Italy. American filmmaker Michael Mann was the jury president for the main competition. Polish actress Kasia Smutniak was the Host of the opening and closing ceremonies. The Golden Lion was awarded to ''Pietà'' by Kim Ki-duk. The festival opened with ''The Reluctant Fundamentalist'' by Mira Nair, and closed with ''The Man Who Laughs'' by Jean-Pierre Ameris. The Reluctant Fundamentalist (film)
''The Reluctant Fundamentalist'' is a 2012 American political thriller drama film directed by Mira Nair and starring Riz Ahmed, Kate Hudson, and Liev Schreiber. It is based on the 2007 novel of the same name by Mohsin Hamid. The film is a post-9/11 story about the impact of the terrorist attacks on one Pakistani man and his treatment by Americans in reaction to them. In 2007, Nair read the manuscript of Hamid's unpublished novel. After reading it, she decided to make a film. Her production house, Mirabai Films, and Nair's long-time partner, producer Lydia Dean Pilcher's production company, Cine Mosaic, optioned the film rights to the novel. The film premiered as the opening film for the 69th Venice International Film Festival, and at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival. Amir Naderi (, , born 15 August 1946, in Abadan) is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, and photographer. He is best known for '' The Runner'' and '' Vegas: Based on a True Story''. Career Amir Naderi grew up in Abadan, a working-class port city in southern Iran. He developed his knowledge of cinema by watching films at the theater where he worked as a boy, reading film criticism, and making relationships with leading film critics. Runa Islam (; born 10 December 1970) is a Bangladeshi-born British visual artist and filmmaker based in London. She was a nominee for the 2008 Turner Prize.
