65th Armoured Regiment (India)
65th Armoured Regiment, is an armoured regiment which is part of the Armoured Corps of the Indian Army. Formation Raised after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, on 1 September 1966, as the 65th Cavalry, its designation was changed to 65th Armoured Regiment in August 1967. The first commanding officer was Lieutenant Colonel (later Brigadier) K.K. Kaul. The class composition was Dogras, Jats and Rajputs. Equipment The regiment was initially equipped with the upgunned Sherman Mk IV and Mk V tanks. It was later equipped with Vijayanta tanks. The 93rd (Independent) Reconnaissance Squadron was raised with AMX-13 tanks. The regiment subsequently converted to T-72 tanks. The 1st Armoured Division is an armoured division of the Indian Army, headquartered at Patiala, Punjab. It is part of II Corps of the Indian Army's Western Command. Formation The division was formed when the 31st Indian Armoured Division was re-designated on 1 September 1945. The 1st Armoured Division was one of two divisional headquarters transferred from the British Indian Army to the Indian Army upon the partition of British India in August 1947. Ramban is a town in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, India, which is the district headquarters of Ramban district. Banihal
Banihal is a town and a notified area committee, near Ramban town in Ramban district in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a rural and hilly area with Kamirwah being one of the most prominent hills. It is located about away from Qazigund of Anantnag district on NH 44 (former name NH 1A before renumbering of all national highways). However, the distance between Banihal and Qazigund is only 18 km by train on the new railway line which is much shorter than the road. The most common language spoken in the region is Kashmiri. Operation Brasstacks was a combined arms military exercise of the Indian Armed Forces in the state of Rajasthan from November 1986 to January 1987. The operation's aim was to determine tactical nuclear strategy. The 54th Infantry Division is an Infantry division of the Indian Army. The Division was raised as an Infantry Division, but was converted into a Reorganised Amphibious Formation (RAMFOR) in 2011. Junior Commissioned Officer
Junior commissioned officer (JCO) is a group of military ranks which is higher than havildar (non-commissioned officer) and lower than lieutenant (commissioned officer). The term is only used by Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. Senior havildars are promoted to JCO rank on the basis of merit and seniority, restricted by the number of vacancies. JCOs are treated as a separate class and hold additional privileges.
