63rd Infantry Regiment (PA)
63rd Infantry Regiment is a reserve unit of Philippine Army activated and organized during World War II. I was organized from reservist and recruits high school and college students around the 6th Military District. It is part of the 61st Infantry Division activated to cover the island of Panay. The regiment fought entirely in Panay island until it was ordered to surrendered on May 12, 1942. Background The regiment was initially commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Albert F. Christie upon its activation in October 1941 in Romblon. However, then Colonel Bradford Chynoweth the newly designated commander of the 61st Infantry Division selected Christie as his division Chief of Staff. He was replaced by Lieutenant Colonel Carter McClennan as its commander in late November. It was inducted to USAFFE on November 15, 1941. 61st Division (Philippines)
The 61st Division of the Philippine Army was an infantry division from the 1941 to 1942. In late 1941, there were two regular and ten reserve divisions in the Army of the Philippines, with about 100,000 to 300,000 active troops and officers in the general headquarters, camps in Manila and across the provinces of the Philippines. Among them were the Visayas-Mindanao Force under Colonel (Later MGen.) William F. Sharp in the southern islands (61st, 81st, and 101st Infantry Divisions plus three other infantry regiments), and the Reserve Force. 62nd Infantry Regiment (PA)
62nd Infantry Regiment was Philippine Army Reserve unit activated in November 1941 in Panay Island. It was organized from the Army reservist in that area with officers mostly coming from Luzon and Americans. I was based and trained in Cabatuan, Iloilo and was placed as part of 61st Infantry Division activated on November 1, 1941, in preparation for Japanese invasion of the Philippines. The regiment was transferred and fought in Cagayan sector in Mindanao island until its surrender on May 12, 1942. It was commanded by US Army officer Lieutenant Colonel Allen Thayer. Background The regiment was activated on August 28, 1941, and inducted to USAFFE on September 1, 1941, in Camp Delgado, Iloilo. 64th Infantry Regiment, is a provisional unit of Philippine Commonwealth Army under 61st Infantry Division activated and organized in Panay Island. It fought the Japanese invaders in the island from April 18, 1942, to May 12, 1942, after ordered to surrender by Visayas-Mindanao Force commander Major General William F. Sharp. 61st Field Artillery Regiment (PA)
The 61st Field Artillery Regiment was a reserve unit of the Philippine Army, activated in August 1941 as part of the 61st Infantry Division based in Panay. The regiment was initially organized to serve as an artillery unit in World War II. However, its artillery equipment was lost when the ''SS Corregidor'', the ship transporting their guns, sank after hitting a naval mine in Manila Bay. The regiment fought as infantry for the remainder of the war. Organization The regiment was formed from reserve soldiers and housed at the training camp in Dingle, Iloilo. Personnel were recruited from Panay, except for the officers who came from Luzon. Visayas-Mindanao Force ( Filipino: ''Hukbong Lakas ng Visayas at Mindanao''; Cebuano: ''Puwersa sa Visayas ug Mindanao'') was a military formation created in November 1941 to command all soldiers of the US Army, US Philippine Scouts, Philippine Army, and Philippine Constabulary in the southern islands (Visayas and Mindanao) of the Philippines. Visayan Force
The Visayan Force was a short-lived US military organization formed during the Philippines Campaign (1941–1942) of World War II. It was created chiefly from elements of the Visayas-Mindanao Force that were located on the Visayan Islands in the central Philippines and was activated on March 17, 1942, when General Douglas MacArthur departed for Australia. Its mission was to resist Japanese landings on the islands and prepare for ongoing guerilla warfare, but it suffered from a shortage of rifles and ammunition and from a complete lack of artillery. The Japanese invaded Cebu, the location of the Force's headquarters, on April 16 to 19, 1942.
