60m
60 metres, or 60-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field. It is a championship event for indoor championships, normally dominated by the best outdoor 100 metres runners. At indoor events, the 60 metres is run on lanes set out in the middle of the 'field', as is the hurdles event over the same distance, thus avoiding some of the effects of the banked track encircling the venue, upon which other track events in indoor events are run. At outdoor venues it is a rare distance, at least for senior athletes. The format of the event is similar to other sprint distances. The sprinters follow three initial instructions: 'on your marks', instructing them to take up position in the starting blocks; 'set', instructing them to adopt a more efficient starting posture, which also isometrically preloads their muscles. Christian Coleman
Christian Coleman (born March 6, 1996) is an American professional track and field sprinter who competes in the 60 metres, 100 m and 200 m. The 2019 world champion in the 100 meters, he also won gold as part of men's 4 × 100-meter relay. He holds personal bests of 9.76 seconds for the 100 m, which made him the 6th fastest all-time in the history of 100 metres event, and 19.85 for the 200 m. Coleman is the world record holder for the indoor 60 meters with 6.34 seconds. He was the Diamond League champion in 2018 and 2023 and the world number one ranked runner in the men's 100 m for the 2017, 2018 and 2019 seasons. Su Bingtian (; born 29 August 1989) is a professional Chinese track and field athlete specializing in the 100 metres event. He was the first-ever Asian-born sprinter to break the 10-second barrier and remains the only Asian sprinter to ever break 9.9. Julien Alfred (born 10 June 2001) is a Saint Lucian Sprint (running), sprinter. She won the gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in the Athletics at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's 100 metres, 100 metres event, setting a new List of Saint Lucian records in athletics, national record of 10.72s in the final. Lachlan Kennedy (born 4 November 2003) is an Australian sprinter. He competed at the 2024 Olympic Games. In 2025, he became Australian short track champion and set a new national record, and won the silver medal at the World Indoor Championships, over 60 metres. Early life Kennedy grew up in Brisbane where he attended St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace throughout his upbringing. Track and field (or athletics in British English) is a sport that includes Competition#Sports, athletic contests based on running, jumping, and throwing skills. The name used in North America is derived from where the sport takes place, a running track and a grass field for the throwing and some of the jumping events. Irina Anatolyevna Privalova (; born 22 November 1968) is a Russian Olympic gold medallist athlete. Her Summer Olympics debut was in 1992 in the sprint events, where she won two medals— a bronze in the 100 m and running the anchor leg in the 4 × 100 team, a silver — and came fourth in the 200, representing the Unified Team. José Carlos Gomes Moreira (born 28 September 1983 in Codó) is a Brazilian sprinter who specializes in the 100 metres. His personal best time is 10.15 seconds, achieved in May 2009 in São Paulo. He competed at the 2006 World Indoor Championships, the 2007 World Championships, the 2008 World Indoor Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games without reaching the final.
