5th Assault Brigade (Ukraine)
The 5th Separate Assault Brigade () is a brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces formed in 2022 as a response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. History The 5th Assault Brigade was founded by Pavlo Palisa. The Brigade is closely affiliated with the 58th Motorized Brigade, as Palisa previously served in the brigade and was originally slated to become its deputy commander. Under the command of Colonel Palisa, the 5th Assault Regiment is part of the Operational Command North. In October 2022, the regiment fought in the Battle of Bakhmut, alongside Ukrainian naval infantry and national guard forces. On February 24, 2023, the regiment was reformed into a brigade and the famous 24th Assault Battlion Aidar was assigned under its command. Light Infantry
Light infantry refers to certain types of lightly equipped infantry throughout history. They have a more mobile or fluid function than other types of infantry, such as heavy infantry or line infantry. Historically, light infantry often fought as scouts, raiders, and skirmishers. These are loose formations that fight ahead of the main army to harass, delay, disrupt supply lines, engage the enemy’s own skirmishing forces, and generally "soften up" an enemy before the main battle. A military band is a group of personnel that performs musical duties for military functions, usually for the armed forces. A typical military band consists mostly of wind and percussion instruments. Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the distance ('' ranging''), angle, and radial velocity of objects relative to the site. In United States Army units, a Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) is a company-sized military unit, found at the battalion level and higher. Considered one unit, a Headquarters and Headquarters Company is essentially two elements within one company. Aidar Battalion
24th Separate Assault Battalion "Aidar", also known as the Aidar Battalion, is an assault battalion of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. The unit took part in the war in Eastern Ukraine and had roughly 300-400 members in 2014. It was named after the Aidar River in the Luhansk region where it was initially deployed. In 2014, Amnesty International reported that members of the Aidar Battalion had committed war crimes during the War in Donbas. It was disbanded in 2015 and reconstituted as the 24th Separate Assault Battalion of the Ukrainian Army, before being absorbed into the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade in 2016.
