Oregon Legislative Assembly
The Oregon Legislative Assembly is the state legislature for the U.S. state of Oregon. The Legislative Assembly is bicameral, consisting of an upper and lower house: the Senate, whose 30 members are elected to serve four-year terms; and the House of Representatives, with 60 members elected to two-year terms. There are no term limits for either house in the Legislative Assembly. Each Senate district is composed of exactly two House districts: Senate District 1 contains House Districts 1 and 2, SD 2 contains HD 3 and HD 4, and so on. William McCoy (Oregon Politician)
William McCoy (June 11, 1921 – April 1996), was an American politician from Oregon. In 1972, he was the first African American elected to the Oregon State Legislature. After serving one term in the Oregon House of Representatives, he was appointed to serve in the Oregon Senate. In the next election he was elected to the same seat and served until his death in 1996. His senate district covered North Portland and much of Northeast Portland. He was a Democrat. Early life, education, and career William McCoy was born in Indianola, Mississippi on June 11, 1921. He attended high school in Missouri and attended Lincoln University for three years, studying political science. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served three years during World War II. The Oregon Land Conservation and Development Act of 1973, formally Oregon Senate Bills 100 and 101 of 1973 (SB 100 and SB 101), were pieces of landmark legislation passed by the Oregon State Senate in 1973 and later signed into law. It created a framework for land use planning across the state, requiring every city and county to develop a comprehensive plan for land use. SB 100 expanded on Senate Bill 10 (SB 10) of 1969. Thomas Lawson McCall (March 22, 1913 January 8, 1983) was an American Public figure, statesman, politician and journalist in the state of Oregon. A United States Republican Party, Republican, he was the state's thirtieth List of governors of Oregon, governor from 1967 to 1975.
